Non-O content

Y'know the pickup selector switch on LP styled guitars?
I have seen a spherical "ball-shaped" tip for sale for those switches, but I cannot find them now.
I don't even know what to call them. But they would be shorter that the regular tip.

Y'see, I took this switch tip off because I hit it when I strum. (Bad technique, I know)
But it would be nice if I could make it pretty with a little ball tip.
I know that I have seen them, but I cannot find them now.

Since I can never snag a cheap VXT when I have the money, I bought one of these instead...

See? It came with a biggass switch tip... I need a smaller one.
It doesn't even have to be spherical, just really short.

Any advice or referrals would be appreciated.

OMA, I have the tip you need:

Practice strumming differently!

(Sorry, couldn't resist, but I can't figure out how the heck you are strumming and hitting that switch. Have you been working on Pete Townsend "windmills" or something?)

Are you looking for a different rubber cover for the switch or are you talking about replacing the switch itself? Have you tried Stew-Mac?

I am not trying to replace the whole switch, it works fine (it's a little wobbly but it works).

I am just looking for a smaller plastic knobby thingy.
I have the original...

I had just seen one online somewhere that was just a little short ball.
It didn't stick-out as far.
I didn't need one then, and now that I need one I cannot find one.
I cannot even find a photo... (if I could find a photo, I would find the people selling them)

I may just cut that plastic thing in half... That oughta do it.

As to my technique... I pick/play up around the 23rd fret on electrics.
Right over the neck pickup, and the nano-mag on this one.
(That is a dumb place to put the selector switch anyway)

typically an electric player would have his hand closer to the bridge for muting purposes. I myself find the Les Paul, UKII, Tornado, Wolfgang, Monaco Elite, etc placement of the switch to be in the perfect place.

Okay...
but my other electrics have them on the lower bout so that is what I am used to.
Maybe that is why I need to modify my technique...

I still am hoping to find a little switch tip.

buy a replacement for a gretsch they are shorter and should do what you need to do

I know what you are going through, OMA. I have a habit of strumming right up at fret 20 or 21 sometimes to get a more percussive sound out of the delay and chorus effects, and that switch would be in the worst spot possible. One reason I don't care for Les Pauls? I think I have seen the switch knob you're talking about, will check with a shop here in town and see if they have one.

Okay, I haven't found what I was looking for (but I will be checking into that Gretsch tip).
But I did do some surgery on the original tip.
I cut about 3/16" off of the bottom of the tip, which allows me to screw the tip down further on the lever.
I am not sure if that little bit will make enough of a difference... but I will find-out.

Yeah, my cutting wasn't really pretty... but it was effective.
