Hi All,

Has anyone had experience with Music Power, in particular their eBay store (877MusicPowerPower)??

They have a small sale on and have the 2078AX-RTD with the Pro Studio Amp (XLR included) plus case for under $1k delivered to Australia. This is by the far the cheapest i've seen and also avoid import taxes!

They have had good reviews / comments but wondered if anyone has dealt with them before?

Cheers.

I've purchased two Ovations from Music Power: a D-Scale and a 2078. I also purchased a Zero Gravity case/bag from them. All three purchases went superbly. In fact, I'm pretty close to buying my third guitar from them.

there is no way to avoid import duty and taxes
be careful of what people tell you to make a sale

Last time I brought a guitar into Australia I didn't have to pay import duty because it was under $1000.

It depends a little on luck because some customs officials will include the shipping cost when establishing its value. In 2005 I bought my 05ES collectors for USD$1000 and paid around USD$400 for shipping. In those days, added up to a smidgin under AUD$2k. I didn't pay any duty. (Maybe because the purchase price was $1000)

BUT! 2 months later a friend of mine bought a Gibson acoustic from the States based on my bargain. He only paid USD$800 and about $300 shipping and he got stung for a couple hundred or so to get it released from customs.

A guitar mule is the safest, cheapest option.

Yeah, mule is best. My mule arrives in 11 days (but who's counting).

If the whole deal is under $1,000 you're safe for GST. However, as an AX is not made in the USA, it may not be covered in the Aus-US free trade agreement, so you may end up paying customs duty on it. As it's coming from the US, they might not pay attention to the place of manufacture.

I ended up getting 2078AX as I couldn't wait for someone I knew going overseas! Managed to get it for under a 1k including shipping inside case. Just waiting for it to be shipped and fingers crossed its ok!
