Location: Yokohama, Japan | Hello,
It was a great encouragement to find this site. I signed up awhile back, but this is my first post. I used to own a nice Balladeer 10 years ago, and one of my best friends just begged me to sell it to him for $50 bucks when I had to leave the States for Japan as a missionary. I had a bunch of other acoustic guitars; and I didn't want to cheapen my balladeer down to 50 bucks; so I just gave it to him. I never regretted it, but I surely missed my Ovation. I began looking for some Ovations on e-Bay, and after some patient searching, I was able to get another Balladeer (1861) and a Celebrity CC54i (for song writing purposes). I had them sent to my U.S. address where they sat waiting for me for the last 7-months. When I recently went to the States on a short business trip I was able to stop by and pick them up. I must say, I am so impressed with these guitars. I knew the iDea pre-amp would be awesome, but I never imagined a Celebrity made in China would sound so good. The Balladeer just has that warm beautiful signature Ovation sound...sparkling highs, punchy mids, and crisp bass...just amazing! So thankful to have Ovation back in my guitar line-up.
By the way, has anybody ever attempted using a rechargeable 9V battery connected to solar panels to keep the juice flowing to the pre-amps? I was thinking about trying something for the iDea because it uses batteries relatively quickly. Thanks for reading my post. |

That solar thing sounds a bit extreme. I think I pay a buck a piece for 9v batteries.. much easier. |

Location: Yokohama, Japan | Thanks for the reply Damon67. I live in Japan right now, and a 9v is 5 bucks a pop! Even at that price, solar might seem a bit extreme, but with solar panels becoming more and more consumer oriented, I thought there might be some cost effective possibilities. |

And then maybe a Solar Charger.
I use rechargeable 9v batteries in all of my guitar preamps.

Location: Yokohama, Japan | Thanks OMA, I took your advice and picked up some Toshiba rechargeable batteries. Although they're about 15 bucks a piece out here in Japan, they seem to last much longer than the alkaline batteries, and are good for 1000s of recharges. I think my Ovations are set for life, at least for the length of my life time...much easier than building an onboard solar charger! Thanks! |
