Hi there,

I'm planning to make my first purchase of an ovation guitar. I really like this look and sound of this one and I was wondering if anyone knew which model it was? There's a good shot of it 48 seconds in.

Thank you!

Actually looks like an early Balladeer. A Legend would have a bound neck

Does the dotted inlay on the frets mean it's a Balladeer? It's also in this video, which might make it easier to determine what model it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69JcYQoanXo

Dots only - It's a Balladeer

Thanks Damon. Just wondering what model that makes it? Are the 1111 Balladeer's the only one's with dotted inlays? It must be one of the early Ovations I'm guessing.

Unless it's an Electro-Acoustic guitar with dotted inlay, so perhaps it's a 1611 or 1612 Balladeer?

Actually, does the black strip on the headstock, along with the dotted inlays, mean it can only be a Artist Balladeer 1121? Sorry for all the questions! I just want to make a purchase of this guitar asap.

Looks like an electric/acoustic by the bridge, but it could be an Artist. It wouldn't be a 1612, wrong inlays.

So either a 1621 or 1611. Hard to say which, but it does look a bit shallower in that second video.

It must be the 1621 then, right? Because 1611's don't have a black stripe on the headstock...I think.

what do you mean by black stripe? In that era, they both had the same necks. The difference would have been the depth of the bowl. That's hard to tell from the video.

Oh I mean the black flame-like shape that starts at the nut, as seen here: http://www.rare-guitars.co.uk/guitars/Ovation-Viper/ovation.jpg

that would be the truss rod cover. all Ovations had those in the 70's around 79-80 the "Kaman Bar" replaced the old truss rod design. The adjustment for those is on the other side, inside the bowl. there was no more need for the cover on the headstock.
