Hi everyone!

I am looking at an Ovation 12 string Serial number 553126. It is black with the Oak Leaf inlay holes. The tuning pegs are gold and it has a EQ pickup (not sure which one.

This guitar is located at a pretty long drive for me and the person who has it says the only number he can find is the SN.

I'd like to know if it was made in the US or not and what model it is. The fret board has the diamond dot pattern.
Thanks
Joe

Hey Joe. There no way of knowing with any certainty. Can you get any pictures? That might help folks here zero in on it for you. Also, ask if the serial number is stamped into the back of the headstock.

Thanks for the reply...how do I add an image? What does it mean if the SN is on the headstock?

To put an image into a post, follow the directions that are about 2/3 of the way down this page: http://www.ovationfanclub.com/faq.asp . Or just email them to me and I can do it. My email addy is available in the link at the top of this post.

Ovation USA started stamping the serial number into the back of the headstock sometime late in the 90's I think. I don't believe the offshore guitars have them.

Hiya Joe,

Lots of pics will help as Bobbo said. Does the back of the neck have a "skunk strip" on it. Looks like a racing stripe that goes the length of the neck. It will be very obvious unless your neck is painted. If it has the stripe, it is likely from the USA.

Even so, pics will help narrow down the model a little.

Good luck and welcome aboard.

Joe, not a USA model. You can tell from how the end of the fretboard is shaped. Could still be a good guitar, but if you're looking for a USA model, move on. Keep your eyes peeled here too. Lots of good guitars are offered by members here.

Give people here an idea what you want in your Ovation, and they will be happy to help you spend your money. ;)
