Hi everybody,could one of you let me know which type of finish is used for Adamas 1687 necks (mine is a RI 30th anniversary from 2005).Looking around at various sources,I understand it might be a satin urethane oil base warnish but I am not 100% sure.Thanks for your help.

Location: Colorado		I have one of the original slotheads...there is no finish on the back of the neck on mine...and it leads sometimes to nice discussions about varnished...vs unvarnished necks...Dave...your turn

Location: SoCal		I have #50 (as new condition). As far as I can tell, it looks like oiled, not satin or gloss. However, my #03 47RI also appears to be oiled.

Location: Phoenix AZ		I'm pretty sure it's oiled walnut. The fretboard is wax impregnated.

Location: Sydney, Australia		Wouldn't an oiled neck need re-oiling periodically? I suspect they are treated with some type of varnish.

Location: Thredbo, NSW, Australia		Some 'oils' such as Danish Oil, and tongue oil dry like varnish and are not tacky at all once dry.

I use Danish Oil when I'm restoring old furniture. It doesn't need to be reapplied unless the finish is damaged.

Location: SoCal		Most likely the oil from your hand is enough. You can always use a small amount (such as Guitar Honey) as you clean and oil the fretboard.

Location: Tennessee		Ovation promoted their "hand rubbed urethane oil finish" for years. I've always found that the natural oils in my hand kept the neck in good shape. For those that get played less, then I just rub the neck with my fretboard rag (that's got FretDoctor soaked in) when I change strings.
