| I have an OVATION 1778 Elite-LX S/N 601xxx. The guitar is a USA made model. Couple of questions. It is the first acoustic/electric I have ever owned. When played through a good acoustic amp the sound is unbelievably good. I love it. Pure acoustically it is very balanced across all the strings, very pleasing to hear, but not as loud as a typical dreadnought. I can live with that as I play it mostly through an amp. I see these still being advertised with a list price of about $2400 new and discounted to $1750 or so. And at the same time I see the guitars advertised in LN but used condition on ebay from $700 to $1100. There seems to be too big a gap between the new prices and the used prices, and to big a spread between used prices for the same condition guitar. Any idea what causes this. I've even been told they are no longer being made in the USA. What's the real scoop on this nice guitar? Thanks |

Location: Flahdaw | It seems pretty typical to me for used guitar pricing. 50% off is normal for used guitars... |

Location: Jet City | It's not made in the USA anymore. New they typically sold on the street for 1200-1500 and used I would say is bit more than half that.
I'm not sure what you mean by "LN"? The new Asian made 1778 is a 1778AX, thought there's also a 1778TX
Only the LX is made in the USA. There's also the 1778T (no X) that is USA made. I know confusing.
Your assessment of the 1778LX is dead on though. Great sound, better than most wood boxes, but not as loud. I sold mine and bought a 2078LX Deep Contour instead, now I have loud again. |
