hello,
I have a left handed 1980 legend. i'm one of the lucky owners that doesn't have a cracked top. the guitar still plays excellent. it has its place in my collection and gets played at home on a regular basis. I do have a bunch of guitars (38). some are one-offs. I like to refinish guitars. just look for southpawjay on youtube and see some of my custom paint jobs.

as for the ovation...
I was having a few minor issues with the ovation, so I decided to tackle them so I could put it back in my gigging rotation. I recently had to get a new classic pickup from John Budny at KMCmusic. while I had the pickup disconnected, I decided to take a look at the preamp system to see what was under the hood. (I have the stacked tone/volume preamp). I noticed it had an adjustable component on the circuit board and wondered what it adjusted? you can use a small flat head screwdriver to adjust it, but I didn't touch it. I just wanted to know what would happen if I did adjust it?

also, over the years, I have removed the shims as the action slowly raised. I noticed the pickup has got weaker since the down pressure over the saddle has decreased. especially the high E and B string. I created a way to add some down pressure for those 2 string to gain more volume and even it out across all the strings. I went to walmart's jewelry department and asked if they had any extra watch pins (that you use to connect the wrist band to your watch). anyway, I took the ends off the pins and removed the spring inside to make a small tube that I could thread the string through and feed it through the bridge. the extra length of the tube make the string stay low and adds more break angle before it goes over the saddle. this instantly added more volume to the string, and evened out the volume across all the strings. the pins are stainless steel and very strong for being so small. they fit right on the string and goes right in the back of the bridge. you don't have to mod the guitar

since I cant post pics yet, I can give you the link of how it looks.

I wanted to say hello and hope to contribute to this forum as well as get some questions answered.

Neat solution with the watch pins! I've got no idea about the preamp. When a moderator gives you full access, post this again in the general postings section and someone may be able to give you an answer.

here is a link to a pic of the preamp. I was just curious what the adjustable cap/resistor does in the circuit?
