Both different, both nice. Even with Black Beauties on the BCS07, it has great, pure sound.
Bear's rebuilt 1669 is right there, too. |

My best sounding wood-top Ovation? My 2 Ovations that I sold!? (Stupid is a stupid does!)#1: A 1977 Legend Natural, mid-depth bowl cutaway, which was the first year they were made, i.e., the one featuring Al Di Meola in the ads, and, #2: A 1978 Legend Nylon-String Classic Stereo Cutaway, with a cedar top. Monster tone from both of these guitars, especially the Legend Classic, in stereo! Cedar tops rule! I sold them both to get my 1990 Elite Natural Deep-Bowl Cutaway. "I'm a bad boy, Abbot!" Or maybe, I am sly, like a fox? The Elite has tons of tones galore now, but it did take almost 25 years to get it there, and NO, I AM NOT, EVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, SELLING IT!! Unfortunately, for me, as of yet, I don't have any offspring to pass it on to when the time comes. I shall enjoy it until such time as, a) it falls apart, or b) my fingers fall off, whichever comes first; hopefully the former rather than the later. Guitars can be replaced. Fingers, meh, not so much?

Location: Texas | "Best-sounding" depends on individual preference/ears/song/style/etc., (and even two "identical" model guitars can sound different.) If it was possible to determine which was the single best-sounding wood-top O model ever made, this crowd of fanatics should be more qualified than almost anyone on the planet, yet there's no consensus here. That said, there are a few models that seem to get the most mentions as contenders...
...all I know is that I stopped searching for MY idea of the best-sounding wood-top O when I got my 1537!

Location: Phoenix, AZ | I love the sound of both my 1778T (USA) and my 1778LX, but it is difficult to pick a "best sounding" one even between those two. They sound quite different from each other, but depending on what I play, and my mood, one will sound better to me than the other.
I keep hearing wonderful things about the 1537, and would love to try one... too bad they are so hard to locate.

Location: Burbank | I recently picked up a 1719 30th anniversary, and always seem to go back to that one. Before that it was my 1537. I go back and forth between the 2 but the Legend always seems to win. Its just has a sound and feel I prefer I guess. |

Location: SoCal | People always tend to pick the guitars they have, but there are three catagories of guitars that seem to stand out. The early 1960's shiny bowls, A braced Legends, and the 1537. All stellar as far as I'm concerned..... |

Location: sitting at my computer | RedemptionSongs - what's the best sounding wood-topped O? Not sure, probably one of them wood-topped Adami. Haven't had the opportunity to try one yet though.  Of the few Os I'm fortunate enough to own, the 1667 has been my daily player since getting it last year and it does sound (and play) really, really good imho, but I also like the sound of the others I have too. Each is different but I wouldn't say one sounds "best". fwiw - sometimes when trying out a new set of strings... it can be like discovering a whole new guitar.  ymmv

My very favorite guitar out of the 15 I own is my 2077LX. Not particularly loud. Not particularly bassy. It just has a crystal clear sound that makes fingerpicking sound beautiful. I've owned it for years now, and I still go "WOW!" when I pick it up. If I had to get it down to just one guitar, there is no doubt in my mind that is the one I would keep.
I agree about the 1778T. Best bang for the buck. Closest to the bass and volume of an Adamas.
I am beginning to think I sold that T for to little money. Just kidding, glad you enjoy it. |

Location: Birmingham, AL | For me it's my 1119 Custom Legend from 1976. A braced, acoustic only. I replaced the bridge saddle with a bone one a while ago and it really came alive. Clear, full , resonant. I bought this guitar new and have never wanted to sell it. |
