Some of you may know I've been jonesin' for a 1658/1158. Got a response to a WTB post on eBay for a 1658-4. Two things that bother me about this particular guitar:

1. the asking price ($1,000 + S&I) I think is too high given what I've seen (the few) others going for lately, especially considering

2. what's described as a "finish crack" on the neck at the base of the peghead. This is an area that I'd be very concerned about, especially with a 12-string given the extra tension on the neck.

Other than that it looks to be in very good condition. The guy says the top has no dings, scratches or finish checks.

Any opinions?

I've seen older Ovations with a finish crack at the base of the headstock. It's not something I'd be worried about.

As to the price, it may be a bit high, but tell me another guitar with that kind of sound and that kind of bling that would sell that cheap? It's a lot of guitar for the money......

That looks awfully "woody white" for a finish crack!

[but you knew that, you just wanted someone to agree with you... and I Agree!]

The price is a little high but not bad.

I don't like the looks of that neck.

Looks Nice..if someone overhere would sell it for that price , than I might go for it ,if everything else is as it should be , that crack does not seem to mean much , but use it as an arguement to put the price down :)

I appreciate the feedback guys. I've asked the potential seller to have a luthier take a look at the neck. We'll see. Meanwhile I'm waiting to hear from fugot - word has it that he has an 1168 he wants to unload, and I have a spare electronics package

I'll have more than that in mine when I get it back from the factory, but it will be in new condition.
