These models look similar, has anyone compared them?

No. I was also wondering this, and there also seems to be a pretty big price difference.

Many of us have played both and they are both very nice guitars and you'd probably be happy with either one...

I'd say the Ute is a bit more open and dynamic tonally and the 1680 slightly more focused and "tight"

Probably more about appearance and price than sound unless you have a preamp preference... (and remember there were only 100 Utes made)

The 1680 has been out for awhile, but I remember people here speculating that it was based on the success of the Ute. You might see what Al can get you a 1680 for. The list price seemed a bit high, but maybe Ovation figured out that they had the Ute priced too low.

Both are very nice. They have different tops.

What is different about the tops? Is once preferential over the other. By the way, I have one of the 100 Utes. When I bought it I didnt know it was such a prize, I just wanted a 12 fret guitar. I was actually looking into a Martin Norman Blake signature model when i happened upon the Ute.

The 1680 also has the suspended ring top mount which increases the bowl depth and the interior volume. The expected outcome would be more unplugged ooomph.

I found specs for both guitars on adirondackguitar.com. The U681T has a Unidirectional carbon Fiber top and Quintad bracing, ebony fretboard, OP pro p/u and lists for $2,499.00. The 1680 has an "ultralight" Woven Carbon Graphite top supported by the traditional Adamas "supended ring", LX scalloped bracing,a deluxe grade ebony fretboard, VIP p/u and lists for $3,599.00.

The 1680 is a cross weave, not textured top as the U681T. IMHO, the 1680 is great but I would rather have the U681T. My wife describes the U681T played as an acoustic - "surround sound".

There is about a $1,000 difference in price if new. Those of us that bought one got a fantastic price. Obviously, the factory came to their senses when they priced the 1680.

Fortunately for those that didn't buy the guitar new, a couple of U681T's have been available either on eBay or in the dark corner of a guitar store (I found one a couple of months ago hanging in a Guitar Center soooo far up in a dark ccrner that most wouldn't have seen it).

Again, IMHO...buy the U681T; if that isn't available, find another textured top Adamas.

Seems like most of the used ones went for around $1500, but I don't remember seeing one on ebay in a long time.

I don't regret selling it, but I miss my UTE.

I recently played an Artist LX (new version of the Country Artist)that seemed to have the same neck as the U681T, 3/4 board, same ebony tuners only it says Ovation instead of Adamas.
