Dear All,

I have been considering to get a textured-top Adamas recently. After quite some strugglings, I finally made up my mind & bought the last piece of #47RI available here in Hong Kong today - #21.

I'm so happy to get hold of this wonderful guitar that is probably sold out already in most places. Especially to me as an Ovation/Adamas fan & sort-of "love-at-first-sight" right at the moment my friend showed me one when I was still in high school many many years ago. Not to mention I managed to squeeze for extra few %s discount from the salesman (but still not a wise choice to let my wife know how much it costs)... :D

On the other hand, I'm also feeling a bit guilty for purchasing an expensive guitar given I'm not that good as a guitar player.

Anyway, I'll try to finish work today as early as possible & go home for my "date" with my #47RI.

I'll try to take some pics & send to Jerome when the weather turns better here in Hong Kong.

Cheers, Andy

That is a nice guitar. I know you did not need the cutaway feature and the acoustic sound is about as good as it gets. This is a very good choice considering what you were after in acoustics. Enjoy

That guitar will inspire you to become better! :D

Seriously, that is one of the finest guitars I ever profaned with my hacking. Congratulations, and may it bring you long years of enjoyment.

It's not always how good you play, it's how the guitar makes you feel.

If this one makes you feel good, then you will get better just by owning it and playing it.

Great guitar. You made a terrific choice.

Wonderful. I feel guilty about my abilities even if I buy a cheap guitar. But not so guilty that I wouldn't buy it if you ever want to sell the #47.

I never played such a guitar. I own an Adamas II and it is simply wonderful so...... I understand your happiness. Enjoy your new #47RI.

Thanks to all... I'll definitely enjoy playing this new guitar... The biggest headache now is to "swap out" one of my existing Ovation (Custom Legend 1689-5) as I promised my wife to keep the same number of guitars. And as I mentioned in another post, we don't have an active 2nd hand market here in Hong Kong.

Anyway, need some good advices from fellow OFC members. I searched thru the forum posts & it is suggested to use some brand like Butcher's wax for non-gloss necks. I'm not familiar with the Butcher's brand & I'm afraid we don't have it for sale in HK. Wonder if it is just some normal wax for wooden furnitures will also do the job well?

Since the #47RI I bought was the last piece in the shop & they just left it as display. I believe it has been tried by countless number of people. As a result, the back of the neck doesn't have that strong "woody" feel right now. I believe it needs some thorough cleansing...

Your suggestion will be much appreciated...

Cheers, Andy

I put on a fresh set of strings onto the #47RI & what a big difference!!! The sound was so loud yet clear; it just sounded different to (& better than) all the guitars I have ever owned or tried. I now understand what other fellow OFC members meant by a balanced tone.

I also took out my Customer Legend LX (which I believe should not be a bad one by any mean) as a comparison. The Custom Legends immediately sounded muddy when comparing to the #47RI. All the "details" like hammer-ons, pulloffs etc. were projected so clearly but not overwhelming on the #47RI.

I probably wouldn't have bought the #47RI if I haven't read those positive comments/suggestions from your guys (especially I would prefer the Adamas blue to red). Thanks a lot for "bringing" me such a wonderful guitar....

But as I said earlier, since this #47RI have been "tried" by numerous people when it was shown as an display item, the back of the neck feels a bit sticky. Not sure how I could fix/clean it up. Any good suggestion? Thanks.

Cheers, Andy

Not being a good guitar player never stopped me from buying a(nother) guitar...

Andy, hasn't stopped me either...and I don't feel guilty at all.

Not counting the 12-strings, my 30th Anniversary Custom Legend (deep bowl) gets a little more play than the 47RI even though my wife says the 47RI makes me sound like a better player than I am. A mixed compliment.

My U681T and the 1687's get very little play...in order:
30th Anniv Custom Legend
47RI
very early GC Artist (on loan)
OFC slothead
1687's (3)
Patriot
Lennon
2006 Collectors
2005 Collectors
2001 Collectors
and on down the list...

Enjoy...

Congratulations Andy, I almost bought that guitar just to keep it there whenever I return... I'm glad you got it though. Let me know what you need (accessories etc.) and maybe I could bring them to you when I return in mid March.... Cheers
