Anybody actually own one of these or played one enough to have an opinion?
They always look like a heck of a lot of guitar for the money.

There's a shop in my town with a windowful of 'em, but I've yet to play one . . the shop's "by appointment only".

I particularly like the archtop acoustics with the oval soundhole . . .

Let's face it - you're always gonna have problems with a music shop with a door policy.
Use my name and they'll let you in.

There's no pics of the oval soundholes on the website - descriptions yes, but only pics of the f holes.

Is a Hamer Echotone an archtop? I don't have to worry about showing my ignorance to you guys, because you've all pointed it out to me many times.

D'Zilla has an Eastman Archtop (don't know the model #) Maybe he'll chime in.....

I noodled around on it awhile (briefly) at Zillafest......not my cup-o-tea but it was a beautifully crafted instrument....flawless workmanship!

They are supposed to be pretty nice. I saw some at the store in Black Mountain, but I was being a built in USA snob that day and didn't pick one up to play it.

I remember Paul Temp played some Eastman archtop guitars when he was in a Shanghai. As I recall, they were expensive but still less costly than an American made box. Basically a 10K guitar for 2K, but now probably 3K with the decline of the dollar. They made violins and used Benadetto's design theories. The necks are 1 3/4.

I saw that they make some new semi solid models in the below 1.5K area that give just about any manufacturer a run for their money.

These are not to be confused with Eastwood guitars.

I got this blurb from a November 2007 issue of guitar buyer:

Founded in Beijing in 1992 by
Chinese-American Qian Ni, Eastman
Strings set out to produce high-quality
instruments with an emphasis on
skilled craftsmen, old-world know-how
and the best raw materials. Initially
manufacturing violins, mainly using
traditional 19th century European
methods, Eastman has since expanded
to produce other orchestral stringed
instruments, brass and woodwind,
mandolins and, of course, guitars.

Glad you clarified that. I was wondering why they were asking so much for an Eastwood.

I own an Eastman 810 Archtop. I really like it.

I first noticed Eastmans after seeing pictures of them. They have absolutely beautiful finishes. I started doing some research and reading reviews and they sounded like really great guitars. The general consensus I got was that it sounds and plays like a guitar costing 2 or 3 times the price. Sound familiar? It had been about 25 years since I've owned an archtop so I got GAS, bad.

I picked mine up on en eBay about a year ago and I'm a happy camper!

My 810 has a nice warm acoustic sound and a comfortable neck. It sounds nice and warm and mellow plugged in, but it tends to feed back pretty easily. I try to keep the low E sting muted as much as possible when I'm not using it and that helps.

I keep flatwounds on mine, which you either love or hate, but I like them on that guitar.

Eastman also makes some nice acoustics. Never played one, but they sure are pretty and the owners seem to like them a lot.

If your in the market for an archtop, definitely check out the Eastmans. Nice guitars. At least that's what RT says...
