What is the correct way to set up the bridge? The previous owner had the bridge bolt tightened all the way down, thus completely hiding the back edge. No access to the intonation adjusters or to thread new strings. The bridge was tilted at an odd angle.

That didn't seem right, so I've adjusted it to a more level attitude with the face of the guitar and there is access to thread new strings. The intonation adjusters are maybe a bit too low to get to. Should I get it tweaked right and then lock-tite the nut on the bridge bolt?

Does it sound like I'm on the right track here?
