Tonight I'm looking at a 70's Ovation K-6300 keyboard amp. I use keyboard amps with Native Instruments' Guitar Rig 3, which allows me to emulate different amps, cabs, and effects, and works best with a good keyboard amp.

Anyone have any information about the K-6300? The photos of it make it appear not to have been mistreated, but I'd really appreciate any information you've got about the amp, what it might be worth, and anything I should look for when I try it out.

Many thanks!

Finally, someone else who uses keyboard amps. As to how the Ovation K-6300 sounds I dunno. Any old amp I swing the pots around and see how much crackling occurs. Then crank it with various gain levels. Beyond that, if it works it's OK. If it sounds wrong, forget it. Let us know how it goes. Where'd you see the pictures?

Here's a pic:

But although I thought there was just the tear in the grill cloth, the seller (honest guy!) just let me know there's also a tear in the speaker, so I'd have to replace that pretty soon. The amp would be dirt cheap, though. I wonder what would make a good replacement speaker. Any ideas?

Speakers can be dirt cheap to stratospheric in price. Take a measurement and look at the back of the speaker and see what kind of info you can get of the back of the speaker. Also, look for info on the inside. I suppose if it was less than $25 who cares. You spill that much in beer on a saturday night. Or I do.

I don't know anything about them either, but it looks like a manual can be purchased for it here.
Radio Era Manuals .

The K6300 is near bottom of page. Give 'em a call.

Actually the K-6300 is just the power-amplifier/speaker section of various different Ovation Amps. You'll need the pre-amp as well.

This Amp catalog shows some of the various confighurations.

Changed my mind. Looking at the schematic, I'd say that you CAN use it alone.

You can use it alone. I probably have NOS replacement speakers if you need them.

These are KILLER amps!!! They were not "bargain" amps even back in the day. Some of the best sounding solid-state Instrument amps made.

The amps and preamps are modular in design, and very basic. If it fails, chances are it's something simple like a corroded contact or the usual blown cap, failed fuse, bad connection etc...

I also have several of the amp modules...

Of course I have complete combos, stacks and cabs etc.. but I guess you probably guessed that already.

I saw the ad on craig's list. Does the combo work, but for the torn speaker? If so, grab it. I'm sure you can get another speaker.

But that's a name for ya', Braintree?!
