What various preamps did the 1768 Elite come with besides the OP-24?

What is a good price for a minty 1768?

What were some of the special order 1768 variants (Book Elite, German Special, cedar top, etc)?

Does anyone have a minty 1768 that they want to sell?

Op-24, OP-24+, Op-24+C, Optima. Additional variations included the craftsman models, some sam ash models and probably quite a few more.

My gloss necked Book Elite is at the spa right now but when it returns I'd be happy to sell it. They don't get any more minty than this one.

I've got a non-gloss neck (the correct term currently eludes me) elite from the year before the book elite. It has an Optima preamp, without the built in tuner.

I paid $525US for it with a non Ovation HSC. (plus almost that again to ship it over here) Some think I paid too much. I don't.

When it arrived and I opened the case, it looked like it had never been played before. You don't get much more mint than this one, and it has the famous Ovation playability.

And I prefer this model to the 'book' elite - I'm not into 'bling'.

And I'm not selling it.

Then I'm looking for one with either the OP-24+, OP-24+C, or Optima preamp.

muzza, you are really taunting me with the description of yours. It sounds really nice...just what I'm looking for.

I don't think it ever had an OP-24+. The top USA models I have seen that on are Standard Elites and Standard Balladeers. I believe the 1768 had the OP-X during the OP-24+ years.

I have an 768-x with the Roland gk-2 pickup built in and it has an op-x that sounds fantastic...dare I say BETTER than the op pro.

I forgot to mention that I bought it on eBay, sight unseen - I got REAL lucky. :D

I have seen them cheaper on eBay, but the 'mintiness' is always gonna be a gamble.

muzza, I see you have an '05 Collector's. That's what I have now, and I'm thinking of replacing it with the 1768. Can you compare the two?

If I could only have one guitar, it would be the '05 - primarily because I prefer the 'traditional' look of the centre hole. I also think the '05 sounds 'cleaner' to the player, but others here say the 1768 is clearer.

Both sound great from in front, and luckily I no longer have to dispose of one. (We re-mortgaged) At the time I thought I had to sell one, I posted a poll here to ask which one I should keep. I was leaning heavily toward keeping the '05, but the overwhelming opinion was to keep the 1768.

I personally feel that (for me) the 2005ES collectors is the best guitar Ovation have ever made. (I said 'O', not 'A') Then again, I only played my first Adamas a week ago.

Remember that this is an opinion of a not-too-good guitarist. Others here have different opinions about the above-mentioned guitars, but all would agree about my not-too-goodedness.

Why not just do what I did, and keep both?

I have both the 05ES and a 1768C. Recently offered up my opinion of each here

I'd love to have a 1768C! Even if it didn't have the preamp I wanted, I could always swap that later.

The Cedar tops are definitely harder to find, as there are not a lot of 1768's, period.
