Loved his music from his Trio days to all his solo work. I had the pleasure of seeing him in the mid 80's in Portland, Oregon. So many of the greats are going. His website said he was told earlier this year that he was in the early stages of Alzheimer's - so his death is probably a blessing in disguise for his family. |

Lotsa famous artists have little in the way of long term financial security from their fame. |

He also sang lead on several of the Kingston Trio's hits in the earlier 60's during his 6 years with them. A truly talented man. |

Location: SoCal | In about 1974, I was in the audio library at my college (U.T., Austin), supposedly listening to a Shakespear play while I read along. I was bored and clicking thru channels when I stumbled on a tune I learned was California Bloodlines by John Stewart. I went out and bought his live album, The Phoenix Concerts and learned every tune on it. All these years later, the only tune I still play is California Bloodlines.
Stewart was a folky at that time. Then he went into his rock star phase, then finally became a folky again. You can pull him up on youtube but most of the video is from the last 5-6 years. He got real old...... |
