Hi folks,
my Adamas II had to make a ride back to the mothership for refurbishment. Recently I got it back and as always they did a great job!

Inspired from the Adamas 1680 model I wanted them to use gold fretwire. And I'm more than pleased with the result. The colors of the walnut and frets match perfectly, the gold looks very organic. No difference soundwise (at least to my ears).

BTW: This Adamas is one of the rare 1682 models which features the real 1 7/8" neck. Very comfortable to play, I prefer this width to the others they offer.
I also upgraded it with the reengineered two-knobber electronics. In contrast to the old electronics the new one is very lightweight.

That looks GREAT Karl! Good idea. I plan on sending my 1581 in for a simular make over with upgraded electronics.

I just switched #3000 to that wide neck and love it too.
What did you do to the electronics?

I am planning on some factory work myself fairly soon. I sure wish I knew what a 1 7/8 neck felt like to play. I am used to the standard neck and have no problems but I am very curious about comfort.
Very nice that the walnut knobs can stay in place and new electronics run off of these?? is there a push pull feature?? Or??

I sure hope that shop is left as-is. That crew's great!

The original electronics worked but the reissue electronics has some adavantages which are worth the effort and money: It produces less noise and is extremely leightweight. I immediately noticed the reduced total weight of the guitar.

You can still use the original knobs. You just need a 1/16" Allen key to unscrew them.

You should all put "Princess" in front of your names.

The 1 7/8 feels like the country artist width.

What's it like ... you know how it feels going from a 1 5/8 neck to a 1 5.5/8 neck? That extra 1/16 inch makes a huge difference. A little bit more room to maneuver? Well, after playing a 1 11/16 neck there's a lot more room to maneuver, but without it being overly spacious. It's a more than a 1/4 inch larger.

If you don't need to manhandle the neck with the thumb over stuff its a pretty good width.

Beal, while the original electronics were state of the art 30 years ago, they ARE 30 years old. When Ovation built the reissues, they also tweaked the electronics for modern performance. I think that along with being quieter, they also sound warmer.

Karl, the old knobs don't fit the new shafts. The shafts of the new 2 knobber electronics are slightly wider than the old 2 knobber shafts.

Paul, you're absolutely right with the potentiometer shafts, I neglected this in my post. It took me five minutes to file the aluminium shafts to the proper diameter for the original knobs. I definitely wanted the original ones as they look better due to the naturally aged wood.

Right Cliff, I locked the bung holes only on the treble side. I have no idea why but in this configuration I get remarkable more bass (especially from the E string) out of the guitar. This also works with the OFC guitar and #47RI but not with my standard Adamas I (1687). Any ideas?

You're funneling the air thru the bass bouts - hemce, more bass response . . . why it doesn't seem to work on the other guitar, I have no idea . . .

Bungs it is!
Have to agree on the bass response, it should work. The only thing it could be is that there's something interfering with the guitar's internal air flow. Some one here had a fancy name for it. But I forget.
