Hi All,

I'm considering to get a Textured Top Adamas. As we don't have an active 2nd hand market here in Hong Kong, I have to go for the current models. (the postage would be very expensive to get/bid one from US & I'm afraid it would be difficult & costly to resolve if the guitar has any problem upon arrival)...

Besides the 4 RI's (1187-247, 1581-5, 1687-8 & U681T-5), is there any other textured top Adamas model in their current line?

Thanks & Regards, Andy

I just returned from HK yesterday. Tom Lee has a bunch of texture tops there including a 47RI, check them out first. You know where, right?

I notice that some of the items in your list are harder to find than others(47 RI, 1187-247, 1581-5, 1687-8, U681T-5). It seems unusual to find a 47 RI for sale, whereas 1687s pop up now and then.....

Yep, I noticed there is a 47RI in the local shop Tom Lee.

Struggling if I should go for it as it's not cheap but more importantly, I do some casual home recordings once in a while & it may be better off to get a model with the preamp (or maybe I should use my other ovations with preamp for recordings). From what I have been reading from this forum, the #47 is superb in acoustic sounds...

Any suggestion? Thanks.

Regards, Andy

Andy: Why don't you try out the guitars at Tom Lee's shop? As you have noticed OFC members have different views on every type of guitars branded O and A. Only you can say what is best for you. ;)

Andy,

Please be more specific about your thinking. You can get wonderful sound by miking the 47RI (some may even prefer that over built-in pickup's). There are a ton of Ovation/Adamas there (Tom Lee) when I was there. Check them all out first and let us know what you think. Then we can get down to some specifics. Maybe I'll bring you one when I return in March. I have a gig over there in TST at the end of March.

Thanks for all the replies & suggestions... I'll try to visit the shop later this week & tried it out again.. It was too noisy last time when I was there & really couldn't tell the differences in sound from the 47RI...

You should consider my Adamas 1 cutaway! I have it listed right in here. You will not find a better Adamas guitar for the money nor one that looks better, sounds better or plays better than this.
It also has the added benefit of being less money than one of these new ones and it has a collectors value already built in as an early Adamas 1 version. Up dtated electronics are easy to instal, but with all the incredible new effects and amps it really does not matter so much anyway. look at the 1587-8 for sale.

I have the Adamas II version of that guitar, and he's right ... it sounds amazing! I don't think I've ever heard a guitar with a stronger bottom end than this model.
