Maxdaddy, The word adamas is a Greek word meaning 'unconquerable and indestructible', the root for 'diamond'. Adamas is also a Latin word meaning 'diamond in the native form of carbon'. I thought the same thing from the title.. a dumb a$$

Thus "a-typical" or "a-moral" the verb "dama-o" means "I tame" or "I conquer"; It occurs in Homer as the name of a hero and appears first to refer to iron. Latin picks it up indeed for a term meaning "hard" "diamond". It also pops up in our usage as "adamant". Literally "I'm adamant about that" means "I shall not be bent or broken (like diamond)"! "unconquerable" "indestructible" is a great name for a top-of-the line carbon-fiber beauty!

Now I know the proper Pre-nun-see-a-shun... I will still pronounce it AH-duh-mass! So... Again. What it the proper plural for Adamas? Adami, or Adamases?

In the ancient languages the adjective is THIRD DECLENSION: adamas, adamANTIS etc. so the GREEK/LATIN plural would be ADAMANTES. When you use "adami" you incorrectly use the adjective as a SECOND declension, which no Greek or Roman would do. Nor should we! That is ridiculous in English, hence "Adamas-es" Accent on the the SECOND A: a-DA-mas

This reminds me of one of the Porsche sites I used to frequent. I would defer to whomever chooses the name. In this case, I'd defer to the Kaman family.

"Laburnocytisus 'Adamii' (also known as Adam's laburnum or broom laburnum) is a horticultural curiosity" But we can be proud of a new coinage, at least! Just like "irregardless" and "misunderestimate"
