Location: Reno, NV | I bought my 1771LX at GC's labor day sale. At that time it was $849. I got 10% off that for labor day.
Since then it has gone up to $949 .. and now up to a whopping $1149.
Im glad I got the deal when I did. I figured that guitars only go down in value as the model stays current but ages. Why does the 1771LX actually gain value? Surely not demand? Are all Ovations MSRP going up as well? They are getting into Martin territory, price wise. I love my O, but im not sure I'd buy it again for the current asking price. Is there a chance Ovation is alienating its market with the high prices. It doesn;t really fall into a "value" at this point. |

Because it is made in the USA! And now that Fender owns Kaman, they will market this as an American Made Guitar!
Just like Harleys cost more than Honda Shadows and Yamaha V-Stars... An American-Made Guitar will also cost more.
That is one possibility...
The other is, in a Global Market the American Dollar continues fall in relation to all other currencies, including the Peso.
(except maybe the Chinese Yuan)
Therefore all International companies will continue to raise prices when calculated as US Dollars.
Unless it is a flat screen TV, computer, or an Xbox, everything else will cost more.
That is my cheerful thought for the day. |

Location: Carle Place, NY | Prices at GC vary quite a bit. The 1778LX has been listed at $1099 at my local GC for a long time. GC rountinely lowers prices for their Labor Day event. I don't think that the price from the factory necessarily went up. What you're seeing is just GC's marketing. |

Location: Vernon CT | Here is a thought re: G.C. and pricing. Guitar Ctr was just recently Bought by Bain Capitol. Bain Capitol bought my former Co Unisource approx 3 years ago ( I was layed off 12/3/07.) One of the first thing they did that became "visible" to the market and the Employee's was to start raising Resale prices on "brands" or "Lines" they believed were not "profitable" enough. Could Ovation be one of those Brands? |

Location: south east Michigan | Every year that I have attended the tour Paul Moody, during the Q&A session, has stood up and told all the Ovation executives that… “Ovations are to cheap!!!”
Someone was supposed to be assigned to him last year but failed. For the next tour I think a TAZER needs to be on hand. |
