Location: Jet City | Well, I hope someone sees this soon, cuz I was on my way to get a humidifier when I realized that most are designed for sound holes.
Any suggestions?
Still not convinced I need one, but it can't hurt. I live a few blocks from Lake Washington.
From Ovation website:
Keep it comfortable:
Generally, if you are comfortable, your guitar will be comfortable. Try to keep the temperature moderate and keep the guitar between 40-60% humidity. Use a humidifier in the case or room if:
You frequently run the heat or air conditioner.
You are in the mountains or desert.
You aren't sure.
If you live by the shore, or on a boat you probably don't need a humidifier. A desiccant (silicon pack) in the case may be needed . |

Location: Central Massachusetts | The DAMP-IT humidifiers will fit into the elite soundholes. Sounds like you need a hygrometer first.
Humidity or lack-thereof isn't typically a problem around here, but both indoor heating and A/C take a lot of humidity out of the air in your house.
I picked up a 2gallon humidifier at Target rather than trying to humidify each instrument I do the whole room. When it runs out of water, the humidity drops a good 10 or 20 points even when the outside humidity is high! |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | You don't need to put in the soundhole. For instance the Planet Waves Humidifier you could just leave it lose around the headstock. Which is what I do.
Or you could use an apple, and that way you'll have something to eat when you hungry. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I had a hygrometer and a little humidifier, then went with a bigger humidifier with a built in hygrometer. That keeps the room moist enough and I only fill it every 2-3 days in the winter. |

Location: Jet City | Well I went to American Music here in Bellevue. I bought it there originally. They had the exact same elite model in their new humidified (of course) room... No "dome" whatsoever on that one.
They had a hygrometer from planet waves which was overpriced, but I bout it anyway. It looks like it was made for a guitar case, but I imagine it will work anywhere. It does have a feature that tells you what high and low points were for temp and humidity, and at what time it occurred, so that will be nice to have.
This is something that's hardly noticeable unless you really scope it out. I plan on taking it in to American Music tomorrow to have their guitar guy check it out. I know he owns a couple Ovations too.

Location: Jet City | OK, I've been monitoring the environment for the past 4 hours. Heater's been running as usual, and I have the hygrometer within 2 feet of the guitar. There was one time where it went down to 39% but for the most part, it's been in between 42%-55%. It's been 70 degrees + or - a couple.
This is the environment it's in all the time.
Should I bring it into the dealer? Should I deal directly with Ovation Service?
Advise is greatly appreciated. |

Location: Utah | Damon, my 6778LX is in about 40% to 45% humidity. The bulge in the soundboard may be about the same as yours, but it's hard to tell from the picture. I've only had it a short while, so I don't know how it looked new.
From the side it is definitely there, and the bridge is tilted like yours, but again I'm not sure if it tilts as much as yours. Looking at it from straight on or from an angle (but not directly from the side), it's really hard to see it. Reflections are very slightly warped.
I guess I'm saying that it may be fairly normal. It wouldn't hurt to have someone knowledgeable look at it, but I would defer to the factory for any solid advice. Perhaps they can provide you with some guidance or you could email them pictures.
As to humidification, it sounds like you're in the right ballpark. As the temp in the house drops at night or when you're away during the day, the % humidity will rise. Then when the heat comes on the humidity drops. You're looking for what the humidity is at 70 degrees, not the peak when the house is cold. |

Location: Jet City | Thanks FlySig. At the peak of the heating hour last night it went to 39%, so I don't think I'll need to do a humidifier. Now if I move to AZ!!
Anyhow, I may be over reacting, and I guess it's OK to say I'm glad you have a bulge too..
