Is there anything unique about this particular Balladeer Special?

For one thing, it appears that it comes in Autumn Burst. That sounds pretty.

I'm only a day away from becoming an Elitist and handing off my S771, but I've been playing it like crazy, trying to get ready for the g8rbowl. I know it's not the dream Ovation, but it's a darn nice guitar.

Well, the reason I asked, there's one on Ebay, but it's a natural finish. So, I was curious about the 'AX' designation. Never heard of that one..

Me either, and there's little info about it I can find. That one on ebay seems very expensive for a Special. Anybody?

AX means A-braced, as opposed to LX which is X-braced.

As far as I can tell The AX guitars first appeared in the 07 catalogs. There are 4 models, a mid and SSB Balladeer plus a mid and SSB Elite, in autumnburst and natural. They are intended as inexpensive USA-made guitars, so satin finish, oil-wipe neck, no bling. The catalog pic suggests they have A/Quintad bracing rather than the X-bracing of the LX guitars. Great guitars for the money and a little more trad-looking than the Elite-T

Ok, makes sense. I don't remember seeing the bracing listed in the Balladeer Special model numbers. I recall the GCS771's for the guitar center models, and the numerical finish designations, but never the bracing...
