Hi GVJIM - another Jim, huh? Welcome to the board. The 1111 Balladeer is most definitely US-made, a very nice guitar for its price, as the entry-level US Ovation line. You probably couldn't find a better built or better sounding guitar in its price range.

HI g8r, thanks for the reply. Glad to be here, I don't own an O yet but have been diligently looking for one...
YOu are right the 1111 Balladeer is a great guitar. However, I don't think the guitar this seller is representing in his auction is a made in the USA 1111 Balladeer as stated.
The guitar he has in auction does not have an ebany fretboard, nor does it have the standard bridge saddle. I suspect there is no serial number on the back of the headstock either. Also, aren't the inlays on the bridge to close together, and curiously the tag appears missing.

I was hoping some of you more experienced Ovation enthusiasts would confirm my findings.

Thanks,
Jim

Welcome GVJIM! Why not contact the sellor for pics of serial # on the back of the headstock and a picture of the label on the inside bowl. Then you should know what he is representing.

Email the seller and ask for a picture of the label inside the soundhole.

And welcome aboard!

I'm pretty sure they stopped using ebony for the fretboard and went to rosewood on the Balladeers in the 90's, but someone here will certainly correct me if I'm wrong. Last month I picked up a '96-vintage 1617 Balladeer for a friend and it had a rosewood fretboard. The saddle is typical of the acoustic-only lines, which this is.

The lack of a label is mildly troubling, but the definitive answer would be the serial number (stamped on the back of the headstock for that year's Balladeers). If the seller can't (or won't) provide that I'd steer clear.

Opps! didn't read the description closely about no label.

So yeah, what g8r said...

personally, i really dislike rosewood fingerboard on any guitar, and if it was up to me i'd look for older guitar with ebony fingerboard.

g8r - thanks for the help, pretty good advice and my thinking on this one too - I asked seller to provide pic of back of headstock , we'll see -
I went to Ovation website, seller actually has a link, and the 1111 had ebony board - thanks for the info on acoustic-only bridge, I didn't know that - the guitar he has listed and in pics could be a USA made O but I feel certain it's not a 1111 Balladeer - at any rate there's an abundance of pretty good USA made Ovations for sale now - on the bay and elsewhere - I should be able to get a good one soon... :)

I think you maybe correct about the inlays, but you need the tag to be sure.

Oh yea, welcome aboard! :D

Welcome GVJIM.
I agree that it's a Celebrity.
One piece neck, Rosewood fret board and the bridge pin locations. Probably a CC11 instead of 1111.
Same as this one
This is the main reason I don't like the Ovation logo on the heads of the newer Celebrity's.

'96 1111 Balladeer? They didn't make them anymore then. It's a Celebrity, steer clear if you want a US O.
