If this: http://www.ovationgallery.com/pageadamas1587.htm describes the 1587 w/o "R" there seem many substantial dfferences. But what the "R" actually means I don't know.

No idea what the R stands for either but I was looking at that just the other day on the Toronto CL (I'm just outside of Syracuse, TB). Nice looking guitar.

Odd guitar. It's a model 1597 unidirectional Adamas with an odd bridge (almost an ebony knockoff of an Adamas I bridge minus the carving) and a thinline pickup. Should go pretty cheap.

Interesting that the ad does not state the name of the "recording artist" to add some celebrity appeal ... Can$1800 is like US$1200 I think.

If I'm not mistaken that looks like a bridge from a Q.

Could "R" possibly mean rosewood neck and fingerboard - as opposed to Walnut? Could a bridge possibly be rosewood? Caveat: This comment is from the uninformed and uninitiated.

If I'm not mistaken that looks like a bridge from a Q.

Q has a normal string through bridge.

It's interesting. I'm trying to figure out what the bridge offers, or why an artist would request it? Just aesthetics or is it structurally capable of handling much larger string gauges and a serious whoopin on? But, yeah, from the two photos... it looks almost like a few 1597s I've owned. I didn't even know they made a 1587 and I can't tell how it's different than the 1597. No idea on the R. It looks like it was added on. Could it mean refurbished or no? Maybe the original bridge started to come up and took some finish with it so they put that one on? Totally just speculating. No idea. That's why they call me...

Correction: I know they made an 1587 but I didn't know they made one that looked like a 1597. I thought the 1587 had the carved headstock? Am I crazy? Did they make a 1587 that looked a lot like the 1597? I will say, the top on that looks a little different than on the same color 1597 I owned. Mine didn't have that up and down pattern. Much smoother glassier top. then again those are so hard to photograph.

Since you asked...
On the MODEL NUMBERS DECODED list it says that "R" means Roland Equipped.
I cannot find a photo of the output jack, so it might have a Roland Midi jack.

This is listed on Kijiji and Toronto Craigslist... Has anybody thought to ask?
It is $1800 which is a good deal for an Adamas.
It might be Rare, but it still is an SMT...

there's no pickup, no midi controls, it's not a Roland equipped guitar, besides, the "R" on the Roland models were at the beginning of the model name i.e. R869 (Custom Legend /Roland) or the R868 (Elite w/Roland)

Can't explain the label, but that's a 1597.

It can't be any form of a 1587, because the 1587 was a textured-top, carved bridge/headstock Adamas I.

Compare the Craigslist pics with the 1597 pics at Ovation Tribute.

In any case, still a good price. It is an Adamas, after all...

Some of the Q's had a standard string through bridge but a couple had this triangle design.
