Hello friends,

I am from India and have been playing the Guitar professionally for over 50 years. I run an Institute, with about 296 students and impart training in the Acoustic/Electric Guitar, the Harmonica and the Keyboards. Ovation was a dream guitar for me and ultimately I got one (CC44), about 4 years back. Good Guitars are hard to come by (now, of course, it's easy to get one) in India and many, many years back, getting a good guitar was a distant dream. The picture has now changed and every name and manufacturer has a presence in India. Still, most of them are Chinese/Indonesia made and the US originals are still difficult to find. And add to this a prohibitive cost ! The CC44 is Chinese built, but the quality is good and so is the typical Ovation sound. Well, I am happy that I at the least, have an Ovation at hand !!

I also have an Ibanez and Epiphone (acoustic) and three Hofner solid body Electrics ( I am a die hard fan of Hofner), plus of course, the usual, pedals, amplifiers and all that goes with the electrics under the sun.

I also set-up and repair Guitars (been doing so for about 30+ years). However, I have a small question:

I was unable to find anything on dismantling the OP4BT on the ovation. I am currently repairing one Ovation (not mine), which is fitted with the OP-4BT and was unable to find any details. The problem is that while using the guitar with an amplifier, the guitar suddenly cuts off, from the amp. I have tried the following:

1. Checked the guitar to amp cable. It's fine.
2. Changed the input socket on the guitar.
3. Superficially checked the on board OP-4 for loose ends.
4. Changed the battery to a new one.

I was thinking of dismantling the OP-4 from the guitar to trace the problem, but was unable to find any details about removing the unit from the guitar.

Can anyone help ?

I have never taken an OP4BT out of a guitar, but I believe that the "box" of the preamp is held-in by the faceplate.
Here is what it looks like without the guitar...

This photo does not show it, but the wire from the undersaddle pickup inserts into the preamp box between the battery box and the preamp itself.
On my CC29S-4C I had to remove that battery box to access the plug-in for the pickup.
On a CC44 you may be able to do get to the connections through the rear hatch.

To remove that battery box, you must peel-off that "Ovation" ( or Celebrity) label on the battery box.
You will find two screws under there that retain the box.
The box also has two tabs opposite the screws, you can see them on top in this photo of the box.
Once you have that battery box out, you can check the connections on that end of the preamp.

I have seen photos of the OP4BT preamp box without the Oval control panel on it...
I think that there are screws under that plastic cover... but I cannot tell you where they are.
I just know that I have seen the bare box with just 3 sliders, the knob, and the tuner button and window.
So maybe that photo will help you with a more exposed view of the unit.
