I picked up an Adamas 1581-2 with the serial number dating it to 1982. Very good condition but the wood where the holes are has a couple cracks. I wanted to find out more about it before I have it repaired. (see pic).
Nothing wrong with the neck or body and the condition is very nice for being 33 years old! I’ll post more photos of the guitar tonight.

Has 2 inputs. Stereo and Mono and didn’t know if this was a common thing.

What kind of value do you think this guitar has?

I appreciate the help!

The cracks look bad. You should detune the guitar immediately to avoid further damage. Better ask John Budny what can be done.

Has the top cracked or is it just the epaulet? The epi on my 1537 did the same things. I just used some super glue and a small clamp and it has been fine for years.

Gotta know what we are looking at. If it's just the epi, glue it back down. If it's the top then it may need to go to the repair shop....

The epaulet is just the little leaf part, correct? That is the only part cracked. The top is excellent. Just not sure the value so not sure what to put into it, etc...thanks for the help everyone!

Well if it's just the wood then it may be an easy fix as moody suggested. As for potential value you could try a search here in the for sale section as well as on ebay to get some idea how much they were sold for new or in different stages of use. As has been mentioned the term "value" has many different meanings, .e.g. what it might sell for, what it's personal worth to you is, or how much it would cost to get an equivalent replacement ...

A little super glue and a small clamp don't cost much.....

If you're worried about paying a luthier, this looks like a definite DIY job. Piece of cake, just make sure you don't glue the clamp to the epi.

Those cracks look like they go all the way through the epi and the carbon-fiber top,if they do you should send it to the mothership for repair.value is subjective but the texture top adamas are getting harder to find so definitely worth fixing.IMHO at least 500$ as is 1000$ + all fixed up.

The photo doesn't show us, but the original poster suggested that it hasn't gone through the top itself - which suggests that the epi has just broken and lifted off the top. That's a simple clamp & glue problem. If the top itself has broken, I'd want to get underneath with a mirror and see what other damage there is. Shouldn't be too hard to find out - I think those Adamas IIs have a back hatch.

Look closely at the photo,on the epi in the bottom of the picture it looks like you can see where the break goes through the carbon-fiber and in the top soundhole that's an awful lot of overlap for just being lifted wood.there should be a manhole you can look through my 1681-8 has an access hatch on the back but just by running your finger inside the edge of the soundhole by the crack you should be able to feel if it goes through.

You can see that from the photo? I can't. What I do see is the epi looking just like mine on my 1537. It was just the epi, not the top. And the origianl poster, sj......, said the top was intact, that it was just the epi.

But then I'm old and my eyes are what they used to be........

I can't tell 100% and hope for the posters sake its just the wood but he may have misinterpreted your statement about the epaulet saying the cracks are only located in that region and not anywhere else,it looks bad but repairable to me best thing is like TAFKAR suggested open the back and get a better look.

I don't see anything in the top unless I'm overlooking something. Here are some additional photos. I'll try to get one behind the cover tomorrow.

It's all the way through where you see the overlap. It's in 3 spots I think

You should contact John Budny at the mothership,Jbudny@DWdrums.com if it can be fixed their the ones to do it,I would suggest seeing if they can patch the carbon-fiber from below and put a new epaulet on top to reinforce it but they'll know the best approach.
