Ok, there are:
Adamas 1, BearClaw
Adamas 2, Tear Drop
The Center Hole, Cutaway Legend
The Center Hole, Non-Cutaway Folklore
The Gold Leaf Black Elite

Are there 2 versions of the Gold Leaf Black Elites?
There is a Cutaway one with a Peg head, and a
Non-cutaway with a slot head - both have the 50th Phoenix on them...

Nancy,

Also note in the pics you posted (large pic of cutaway and inset pic of non-cutaway) that the cutaway version is 14 frets and the non-cutaway is 12 frets - for what it's worth...

I am confused!!! Not that that is a new experience for me....
And... There is now listed 6 Anniversary Pieces instead of 5!

Nuts to this, I am going to go make a Cherry Pie, if anyone wants some, it will be ready in about an hour... I will still be confused, but I will be a happy confused!

THAT is exactly what happens when the information is incorrect. You lose prospective sales...

So I'm really really interested in the Cutaway Black Custom Elite.

Problem is that I already have a Black W597 that I like a lot. It sounds and plays great.

I can't justify bringing home another Black Cutaway Ovation so I need to decide whether to keep what I have or sell it to help fund the 50th Anniversary Custom Elite.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to play one first before I plunk down the change but that may not be possible. I was up at the Mothership and got to hear the very first 50th Anniversary Folklore and it sounded so sweet.

So I'll ask you folks who've owned Elites and Adamas how would you compare these two guitars?

Thanks

My Adamii sound different from my Ovations.
I have a W597T and it sounds different from my Elites.
I am not poetic enough to tell you how they sound different, but they are not the same.

You have an Adamas.

This Elite is an Ovation.

Apples and oranges, not even the same name on the headstock.

Justification made... Buy the Elite, keep the Adamas.

Yea yea yea I should've seen this coming. You are basically quoting the little voice in my head. I'd like to keep them both but...

Let me ask this differently. I've owned an Anniversary Legend a 12 string Custom Balladeer and 2 Adamas.

What does a Custom Elite sound like?

This kind of logic just sounds so correct when Damon says it. Then I look at my bank account balance......

Damon, is it a contour, or a regular back???
I looked when Beal was holding his, and there were no electronics, the tag said that there were, but I couldn't see the back to see if it was a contour or not.

I don't think there are any contours without cutaway.

Correct, all contours are cutaway.

On the electronics I honestly don't remember. I thought it was all acoustic, but maybe there's a line driver and under saddle piezo on it.

That model is offered as an acoustic, but there is an option for the line drive electronics.

Just had the impression when watching the latest video with Darren that there is no 'hole' on the backside of the new contour models?! How do they work on electronics, truss rod....?

Had a look at AX contour models, these do have a service hole....

Just wonderin'....?!

I think you just pop the pre-amp out and the hole might be big enough for some hands to reach in.

I was just looking at the Darren Wallace video and those contour bowls don't have a manhole cover.
At the "Roundback Roadshow" I was looking at a Wood-Top Adamas and it did not have a manhole cover.
Yeah, they said that you could work through the preamp hole... But I didn't believe them.
They do all of the bracing and such before they put it together, so none of them actually worked through that hole. Due to Charlie Kaman's experience with aircraft he thought an access panel was a good idea.
If I were to custom order from New Hartford, I would tell them that I want a manhole cover.

There's something to their statement for sure. They have a manhole covwr on the bearclaw Adamas because there's no preamp hole, so they must have to get in there for something during mfg.

Or... there is no way to reach inside of a Bear-claw because of the bars on the holes.
So you need a manhole cover to get guitar picks and cashews out of it.
