Hello, I finally managed to find a replacement pickup for the ovation 1619. The reason I have to change it is that the old pickup was faulty and not picking up 2 of the strings.
But the pickup that was sent as a replacement seems a little different in that theres only one cable coming from it, whereas the old one has two cables. I'm assuming that the second cable goes to the battery ? If I have to solder the battery cable to this new pickup its going to be difficult to say the least.
Just wondering if anyone has done this exchange before ?
The pic enclosed shows the old pickup still attached to the guitar in the foreground, and the new pickup in the background
Many Thanks
Rusty

There was no picture enclosed. I think all of my pickups only have one wire going to them.

I must have responded before the picture loaded. The wiring on the pickup in the foreground doesn't look original to me. There should be just one wire like the one in the background.

Is it a stereo guitar, two output jacks?some of the 1619's were stereo which could explain a second cable

Franken-pickup.
What kind of Preamp does your guitar have?

Some Ovations have stereo output, that would need two cables.
But I don't think that is what is going on (wrong) with yours.

The battery would wire to the Preamp.
The pickup that they sent you would just plug-into the Preamp.

Weren't the 1619's (not initially, but eventually) stereo? That would mean that the pickup would have 2 wires coming out, one for the E, D, & B strings and one for the A, G, & E strings. Those would each plug into the tone box.

This is what it would look like...

Plus you would have two output jacks on your guitar...
One mono, one stereo.

Yes--thats what the existing one looks like. The problem was that two strings were not being picked up properly--cant remember which ones now.
So , in that case I have the wrong replacement pickup ? And, the next question would be --can I use the new replacement at all now ?

Thanks for your help

Not necessarily.

Back to what kind of preamp do you have?
If you have a Stacked-Knob or pretty much any Ovation Preamp that pickup will plug-into it.
(I am cautious because I have not taken every version of Ovation apart yet )
But if you have an Ovation preamp that new pickup should work.

Yes, its an ovation pickup with just one knob on the body= Bass/Treble wheel on the inside, and volume on top--stacked knob as you described.

Where did you get the replacement pickup? From the factory or from some other source? You need a mono pickup and you bought a stereo pickup.
