Although I know I shouldn't, I look at Oz eBay most days.  I found a W681TA, did a little research and kept an eye on it.  The short story is I won the auction and then had to wait 5 whole days before it arrived.

It is in good condition, although there appears to be a minor issue with the fretboard with a buzz in the bottom E when I fret it at the 12th fret.  Probably nothing to worry about as I don't play up there anyway.  I'll have a closer look when I change the strings.

It sounds nice, a little brighter than my Ute, which may be largely down to strings.  The Ute has GHS Vintage Bronze and the W681TA has new Elixirs.  It has been fitted with a K&K Pure Mini pickup that, in my opinion, doesn't give the full range of the guitar.

Here she is:

And here she is with her sister from a different litter:

..which guitar was burnt in the fireplace while taking the photos? Why? To get space for the new one?

Thanks Nancy. It is a nice color, maybe a bit too much of a statement for me, but I'm getting used to it.

I threw a few Taylors on to warm the room up a bit. It's Winter down here.

Nice score!

The K&K is an extremely simple pickup (but battery-free is nice), and it benefits from a good preamp or amp with a gain control and EQ.

I'm so jealous of that UTE. I admit, I check Reverb and eBay every day for one. :D

I didn't need it - but I wanted it and it was nicely priced.

Yeah, I know, I'm just stirring you

If I had the spare cash, I'd probably own more than two as well.

Great find. Much depends on the placement of the K&Ks. and whether they are fastened with the tape or superglued. The glue expands the frequency range and output. For more treble and bass the outer pickups should be placed further out on the e strings rather than inboard. I'm not familiar with the bracing on that model but it will effect where you can put the pickups. For sure a outboard preamp will improve things all around.

I've two of them!! They are the best sounding acoustic guitars I've ever owned. The first one was a blue one as well, puchased from Al with a color mistake, the second one (black) was an eBay find in England. I have Thomasik-Infeld strings on them (Spectrum 11's) and played them in comparison with #47RI's.
Maybe they are not better, but the blue one is not worse.....

Thanks for the info on the K & K's.  How do these look for placement? The cross brace is at the neck side edge of the bridge.  The outer sensors are inline with the E and e strings, as far as I can tell from measurement.

I have an old Korg pre-amp pedal, whcih does make the guitar sound better.

TAFKAR was here recently with his #47RI - a beautiful guitar. He'll have to bring it again and compare it to the W681TA.

Hey Paul, they don't look bad or worth removing if they are glued, if they are taped I'd move them a little.. If the square pads show the bridge location I'd move the pickups back to be in line with the saddle and put the outer pickup on the pad. The high e would be on the left of the picture, I'd center it more, a little left in the braces and center the middle pickup. I'm a little puzzled by the square pad on the right if that isn't the area of the low E, a 4th small transducer could be bought separate and put in this area for more lows if you need them. You then wire it to the others. The 3 pickup version is really laid out for a conventional x brace flat top , Ovation patterns require some adaption. The big twin dual 3/4s are perfect for the 12 string Pacemaker which I showed in a post in the my guitar section.

They appear to be glued down, so I'll leave them. I can get by with this guitar being acoustic only, although I do have the Korg preamp pedal if needed.

I have a couple old Barcus Berry 1330 preamp pedals like Jimmy Page used to use that always sound good with transducers. The Big Twins on the Pacemaker though put out enough volume not to need anything.
