The short story is I won the auction and then had to wait 5 whole days before it arrived. It is in good condition, although there appears to be a minor issue with the fretboard with a buzz in the bottom E when I fret it at the 12th fret. Probably nothing to worry about as I don't play up there anyway. I'll have a closer look when I change the strings. It sounds nice, a little brighter than my Ute, which may be largely down to strings. The Ute has GHS Vintage Bronze and the W681TA has new Elixirs. It has been fitted with a K&K Pure Mini pickup that, in my opinion, doesn't give the full range of the guitar. Here she is: And here she is with her sister from a different litter:

The glue expands the frequency range and output. For more treble and bass the outer pickups should be placed further out on the e strings rather than inboard. I'm not familiar with the bracing on that model but it will effect where you can put the pickups. For sure a outboard preamp will improve things all around.

The first one was a blue one as well, puchased from Al with a color mistake, the second one (black) was an eBay find in England. I have Thomasik-Infeld strings on them (Spectrum 11's) and played them in comparison with #47RI's. Maybe they are not better, but the blue one is not worse..... Bernie

How do these look for placement? The cross brace is at the neck side edge of the bridge. The outer sensors are inline with the E and e strings, as far as I can tell from measurement. I have an old Korg pre-amp pedal, whcih does make the guitar sound better.

Bernie TAFKAR was here recently with his #47RI - a beautiful guitar. He'll have to bring it again and compare it to the W681TA.

If the square pads show the bridge location I'd move the pickups back to be in line with the saddle and put the outer pickup on the pad. The high e would be on the left of the picture, I'd center it more, a little left in the braces and center the middle pickup. I'm a little puzzled by the square pad on the right if that isn't the area of the low E, a 4th small transducer could be bought separate and put in this area for more lows if you need them. You then wire it to the others. The 3 pickup version is really laid out for a conventional x brace flat top , Ovation patterns require some adaption. The big twin dual 3/4s are perfect for the 12 string Pacemaker which I showed in a post in the my guitar section. Edited by Cavalier 2016-07-09 5:24 PM

I can get by with this guitar being acoustic only, although I do have the Korg preamp pedal if needed.
