I've just stumbled upon the new beautiful Legend Plus models on the Ovation website featuring "eye popping exotic wood tops" such as Koa, Royal Ebony, or Waterfall Bubinga.

What beauties to behold!

They certainly are making some strides. Tortoise shell binding is cool. Factory non-chrome tuner buttons are nice. The whole "Crafted in _________ (enter your favorite southeast Asia country here) thing makes me laugh.

Great photos Damon (as usual)!

The middle one is Royal Ebony.

As for making strides, that's an understatement. Aside from a glued neck and a lesser warranty, these guitars are every bit as nice as the LX models that were coming out.

The fit and finish on theses Korean Legends and Elites are giant leaps beyond what Fender was putting out. Stay clear of the Fender era logos...

I missed it the first time. Is that a volute?

Yeah, sorry. Personally, I think "volute" is a tough word, but I'm a guitar neophyte when compared to most members on this forum. A volute is that extra build up of wood on the back of the headstock and neck joint. (See the photo above of the back of the headstock.). Presumably, it makes the joint stronger and gives it that "bump out" physical appearance. For a better understanding, Google "Les Paul volute".

My point was, I think this is another new feature for Ovation.

I haven't played acoustic for a few years, but occasionally a post motivates me to go upstairs and drag out my 1537. Thanks for that! What an instrument! And nope, no volute.

I think Ovation started using volutes with the LX series back-in-the-day. Somebody will correct me if I am wrong.

These new models look pretty nice for the money. Hope the buying public embraces them well.

It would be interesting to do a side by side to check out the tone differences of the different veneers over the spruce tops. These are the models with AAA spruce tops available with "exotic wood finishes" ?

Come on up to the house Chris. I've got everything from the new Applauses to a 40th Anniversary Adamas here for you to side by side... including the Legend in the pics above.

Damon, I'll be in Seattle Saturday and a few days next week to visit our daughter. We were going to help her move, but the sale fell through. I'll check with you if I get some free time.

Same logo as my 1617ALE...Pretty nice guitar. Made (crafted) in the USA!

Dan, I was speaking to the imports.

I didn't realize they put that logo on the USA ones at the end

Sounds good Damon, what would be a good time? Should I show when Mark does to make it a party?

You're right! I found my LX and sure enough, it has a volute. It doesn't seem to be as dramatic/ornate as the one pictured above, but nonetheless, it's there.

I never did try that, of course I spend a fair amount of time unattached so you might be on to something.

It's worked pretty well for 40 years or so. There's a lot less responsibility when I'm not the boss.
