Adamas strings have always been hard to come by in Japan. Before I came over here, most of my acoustics were strung with 1919Es, but I've had to settle for Daddy's EJ17s for years (not that they are bad). However, with the return of the Mother Ship (thanks to DW) and Internet shopping w/ international shipping (thanks to my supplier), I've been able to get some Adamas strings for the first time in over a decade! How cool is that? I ordered some 1818Es for my vintage 70s acoustics (1117-4 and Yammy FG-160) and the rest will wear 1919Es again! I am so stoked!

Adamas Strings

Re-strung my 1117-4 with some 1818Es and WOW. These are great strings. My assumption was that the Adamas were basically the Daddy's with differences in the core wire of the 5th and 6th strings...oh, but upon closer inspection, they are basically a custom set with different cores in the 5th and 6th strings. Can't quite do my head-to-head comparison yet; but now, I remember why I liked the Adamas so much. They not only sound great, but they fit my fingers and playing style so perfectly. Here's a simple comparison of the Adamas and the Daddy's:

It's a pretty interesting mix isn't it? The Adamas features lighter gauge 2nd and 3rd strings and heavier gauge 5th strings. For me, the matched core 5th and 6th strings of the Adamas feel a bit lighter at my finger tips. Of course, it's all super subjective stuff, but I can't wait to test them by recording and comparing wave patterns. That should reveal some interesting differences translating subjective "feel" into quantifiable data. Cool!

Gotta love those 1818s!! When my 1112 CB and 1127 GC were new I liked the 1919s, but for the older acoustics I now like to keep it light to spare some tension load on the bridge and lower top wood. The past summer I stared dinking around with D'ads EXP16s.. which I believe are the same gauges as their EJ16s, but with the difference being they are coated. I was very pleased with the results for both sound and longevity, but the truth still remains that they simply cannot top the 1818s, especially when fresh. I discovered a set of new 1818s in my spaghetti bin a while back and have been saving them for a special occasion (though I have no idea what that could possibly be.. lol). Who is your current 1818 supplier?

Location: Yokohama, Japan		I hear ya Love O Fair. I like the EXPs too, and some of the other PB offerings from Martin, Elixir, DMs, but my heart seems to find the most satisfaction with the Adamas. My "supplier"? The OFCs very own "Red Carpet" Rocker! Hey, waitin' for that special occasion? Break out the 1818s and post a video of you playing either your 1112CB or 1127GC. I'm sure a lot of OFC folk will enjoy that. Include your fav Christmas song and make it and extra special occasion!

My Very Favorites for the Ovations are the Adamas 1818's!! I even put them on my Adamas'! I like their sound and feel the BEST!

Detlef Michel turned me onto Thomastik Plectrum's, which I like on the Shallow bowls, but for the Majority of my Babies, only the Adamas 1818's!!

I am SO glad that they brought them back too!

Location: Canada		I really liked the Adamas 12 string set on my Legend LX, but am quite happy with the D'Addarios as well which are much easier to get. Last year I tried their new Nickel Bronze on my Guild Orpheum and they were great. I will also try those on the Ovations.

Thank you for your encouraging spirit... but if I posted myself playing anything I would probably get voted off the island; however, at least I could use my 1127 as a flotation device since the person I left it with in Wyoming last spring has probably trashed it to that level and worth by now. I guess what I meant by "special occasion" could be something as simple as a lapse in my laziness.

Jeez MatureWolf, I thought getting Adamas strings in Japan was hard! You have to go all the way out to Germany from Moscow to get yours! I feel really fortunate! The Adamas 12-string sets are remarkable strings indeed! Glad you were able to get a few!

I think Adamas strings are available for everyone ;-) Just go to Thomann.de, create account, put items you neen into cart and finally place an order with paypal or card payment. They offers shipping to Japan (50 euros) and excludes VAT what is good for you.

Hey kentrookie! I really like the look of those C2079 Koa Bursts. Congratulations on the purchase of a great instrument! Glad you were able to try some 1818s. The Adamas strings really compliment the Ovation line like no other string IMHO. I wonder if it has to do with string/lyrachord resonance. Maybe I'm just biased, but I've tried a lot of other strings with my Os and many of them sound good, but none of them sound "better".
