Good evening OFC'ers!

I sold my Adamas 1881 a couple years ago (my only guitar) and I've been regretting that decision for a while now. I thought life would settle down after a while, then I would have time to play again. I took that money and invested in new tower and center speakers for our living room and we've really enjoyed them. But life shows no signs of slowing down for our family for the foreseeable future and I miss my guitar...a lot. I'm just going to have to make the time to relax and play.

So, I'm looking for something to put in the empty stable, preferably from the OFC family as your Ovations probably receive better care than most others. I'd like to avoid luthier specials and needs TLC types. I'd rather stick with the Elite-style top and/or some of the Collector Editions if possible. I loved the Optima preamp in my 1881, but I'm willing to accept what resides in the guitar. Bowl depth is a secondary consideration for me.

I'm in Colorado and would rather buy something closer to home than risk shipping damage, but my 1881 came from New Jersey and was sent to North Carolina without any issues.

Budget is obviously important, so let me know what you have to offer and we'll go from there. In case the moderators need a price point, let's use a maximum of $1500 although I would like to come in less than that if possible. I know these guitars are becoming increasingly rare, especially in decent condition, so I understand some of what I'm up against. Still, I'd like to get a deal that both sides are satisfied with.

Please send private messages along with photos.

Thanks.

Life only slows down when you slow down and make it slow down. And best of luck on getting another guitar and becoming lost once again in the wonder and joy of music!!

Todd.. Id' think the first option around here would be to contact Al at: http://www.lostartvintage.com/default.aspx?country=us He's got all kinds of nifty Ovations in your price range and treats his customers very fair and honest. In fact I think I saw a pretty little Elite USA 1778lx cherry burst on there recently in the used instruments section that might get your attention. Aside from that, I'm sure others OFCers here will fit your bill as well. Here's wishing you the best of results in your search. Glad to hear you're back in the groove!

Thank you to those who have responded to this point. I appreciate you taking the time to consider parting ways with a member of your guitar family and I will make sure to respond to each individual message at the end of each day.

I would focus on finding a 1537 or an Adamas II to fill the need.

That's basically what I'm hoping for. Someone turned me onto a unique opportunity today and I'm awaiting photos and a more thorough description. But I'm hopeful to have a new guitar in the house (or on its way) by Christmas.

I emailed Al last night about one of the guitars on his website and asked if there was a chance he still had a guitar I asked him about a couple years ago...I'd be willing to stretch the budget on that one a little bit. Hopefully I'll hear back soon.

Thanks to all who have helped with suggestions and offered up pieces out of their personal collections--a few of those guitars were tough to turn down. But I have found a guitar that was high on my wish list at a price that fits within my budget. I'll post more details once I have it in my hands.

Thanks Brad. It's great to be back. I was quickly reminded how great this group of passionate Ovation supporters is.

I really need to commit myself to meeting up with the Colorado group one of these days and strum the few chords I know in a group setting, something I've never done before.

Well, it's on its way. I should have it by this time next week. It came in under the high end of my budget, but I'll spend some of the difference having the first few frets replaced.

I just picked up the 1581 (SN 7815) I bought last week and the first thing I saw when I opened the case was a bulge in the top, pretty much the full width of the bridge. It starts at the bottom of the bridge and runs nearly all the way to the binding. My worry is that the bridge my fail at some point and/or the top will begin to lift at the binding, so I'm returning it tomorrow under the 45 day return policy.

I'm bummed...really had my heart set on this baby. So I guess you could say I'm still looking.

Sounds as if the layers in the top may be delaminating.

Or, the braces underneath popped loose.

I considered that some of the bracing may have come loose, but I didn't remove the manhole cover to check. I took the guitar back this afternoon and got my money back. On to something else.

Well, I found something else and will take delivery at the end of January. I can't wait to get this mint condition Ovation in my hands.

After a long vacation trip, ProfessorBB brought back his Adamas 1581-5 anniversary reissue from California and we closed the deal last night. This thing is mint and has sustain and bass for days.

Special thanks to Brad for opening up his home and setting up a little audition studio in his front room last night so I could test drive it before driving home with it--what a gentleman. He even took it for a spin. What a great guitar.

Time to get back into playing shape now.

Thanks, Todd. It is a really great guitar. It has resided with an OFC member since birth. You're its 3rd owner. Now let's hear some more of those Eagles tunes you were getting into last night.
