Hi all.

My name is Julia and the Ovation Custom Legend Model #1658 (Serial #241743) actually belongs to my older brother (he purchased it from a friend who was the original owner) and yes, I believe it's his first Ovation. I've been helping my brother downsize (aka selling of his in-home studio, including his instruments) to move into a condo. It's been really hard because I'm selling instruments that he's owned and loved for 20+ years (e.g. 1908 Steinway, Prophet 600, JD800, etc.). I worked in concert lighting* in Boston for 10 years, so although I'm not a musician, I can appreciate the love and bond between musician and instrument. So I am trying to be real careful in researching his Ovation and getting it to someone who will love and appreciate the Ovation as much as my brother.

To that end, I've read a number of Ovations 1658 posting on the OCF forum and I've looked up the model and serial numbers but I still have a few questions. The first question is about the last number ("8") of the Model number ("1658"), does that indicate that the "Custom Legend" ("5") is a Glenn Cambell model? And the second questions is to confirm that Serial #241743 would be 1981? Sorry if my questions sound trivial, I just trying to get right.

Many thanks for reading my questions and to any one who might reply.

Cheers, Julia

Hello Julia,

Yes, the serial number indicates 1981.
Model number... 16=Acoustic Electric. 58=12 String.
Your guitar should be a slot-head 12 string legend.

The difference being that yours plugs-in and these are acoustic only.
Those are like REALLY fancy "Pacemakers" (Ovation 1115 12-string)

Hopefully, a moderator will be along who can allow you to post in the rest of the site.

Hello Arthur,
Thank You! Yes, my guitar looks exactly like the clear natural on the right in the photo you posted. I would have uploaded a photo, but I couldn't figure out how to do attachments beyond checking the box to add an attachment after the posting. So thank you on confirming the year and explaining how the model number works (aka 12 string).
Thanks again,
Julia
