Hi - I picked up my first Ovation yesterday, and it's a project. s/n 124590. By the state of the binding/purfling, it looks to have been re-topped. A cursory look inside showed an x-braced soundboard and a nice rosewood bridgepad. (?) The rosette looks similar to those on Celebritys. I am wondering if that is what they used. I'll see if I can post a picture.

I'm not sure how to add a picture to my post. I did add a picture on my wordpress page. Click the www button to see a larger shot than my avatar. On the top, I'm not sure which way to go yet, as it does have an open crack from bridge to bowl... From what I've seen older models like this one have a glued in neck that may make top replacement or reset challenging. What do you think?

Today's discovery - straight saddle! The bridge was lifting, and got removed, but - upon closer inspection, it looks like someone made an insert to replace the original pickup(?) Nice work, but the slot is straight - no compensation... It was coming off anyway, and didn't put up too much of a fight.
I can't believe how much work went into this thing, to make it wrong...lol.

I'm inching closer to ripping the top off and starting from scratch.

Blues Creek OM bracing form  Guitar on Jig

Not sure if these photos will work they are posted at

https://chucksguitarstache.wordpress.com

I had a look around the shop and found a bracing jig that's similar to what will be cut out for the Balladeer.  I don't want to cut this one up...

Also found this neat rotating jig that i looks like it will work great - hopefully they show up. (they don't)
