I saw a 12string custom legend (my favourite Ovation!!!) on ebay, but I´ve never seen one with a rosette like this. I cannot ask the seller a question, so I ask you if anyone has seen a similar one before. I don´t believe that this is a fake guitar. It looks sooo nice and I´m about to buy it. What do you think?

It looks like the original rosette was taken off the guitar and what's there was painted on. Otherwise it looks to me like a real CL.

I think these are definetely wooden inlays. And if not - I have a cl rosette in my workshop...

You could be right, but it looks like an applique to me. Inlaying a rosette into a top on a finished guitar would be pretty tough.

Here's a close-up pic of the rosette. Notice how the rosette goes all the way to the edge of the sound hole. Also the coloration of the underlying wood is showing though the rosette, especially in the lower right corner.

Granted, these are pretty low-quality pics. I would assume it's an applique so you're not disappointed if you decide to buy it. That way, if it turns out to be truly inlaid, then that would be the icing on the cake.

I personally don't dislike the style of the rosette. If it were an applique and I had an actual CL rosette, I'd remove the applique and glue down the CL rosette.

Guys, looks like this is small soundhole (a-la early 12-string balladeers) - I through she is custom-made (or proto) CL1658

Best,

Alex

No... everything is wrong for an early 12er. Tuners, bridge/TR cover mid-70 or later. Label early 80's. Stereo electronics... nothing fits with small hole era.

Yes, I see, everything on this guitar corresponds to "standard 1658 from eighties", except the diameter of soundhole - it IS small comparing to usual one.

Best,
