Damn. I've been thinking lately that his time was about up. Maybe it was the funeral I went to last Friday. It's a tough disease. I just hope those suffering from it don't suffer too much. He had a great life.

I've been dreading this news for a long while. But despite such a loss, I think he's pleased somewhere that he made an unknown stranger smile like a bemused, little kid while he watched this today. Talk about joy in a performance!

Glenn made a huge impression on my life. I easily recall the first time I saw him on tv with an Ovation guitar. I was obsessed with finding out what that round back guitar was! I rode my bike a long way into town to a music store and learned about Ovations. Two weeks later the store had one in stock I lusted for with all my might. I was just a kid and it would be several years before I owned one. I've had a lifelong love affair with them ever since. I nearly wore out an lp of Glenn's called The 12 String Guitar of Glenn Campbell when I was very young. I couldn't believe one guy could play guitar so beautifully! Very sad day even though we had plenty of time to prepare.

He will never be forgotten and what a wonderful musical legacy he left us with. Rest In Peace Mr. Campbell, and condolences to your family, friends and fans.

Blen Sambo...apparently that's how I knew him as a three year old since I couldn't pronounce his name. As I get the story from my parents, whenever the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour came on television, I would run to my room and grab my cheesy little plastic guitar so I could stand in front of the TV and "play along" with Glen. I'll think if you when I'm playing later this evening on my "cheesy plastic" guitar. Thank you for sharing your gift with all of us. Adios my friend.

To bad but a release from the situation. He'll be playing on another level now.

Wow! I came-home and turned on the Evening News.
During the intro the mentioned a "Tribute to Glen Campbell".
I haven't seen the News "Tribute" yet.
I immediately came to the OFC... and yup. Glen has left.
I remember watching the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.
I always liked his music, even tho' it wasn't "cool".

Adios Glen.

Is there anyone.. anyone.. who represented more to the dedicated and loyal Ovation circle of life than Glen Campbell?? Aside from Charlie himself, I would think not. We speak of many greats in this forum that we have lost, but I cannot think of anyone left today for whom the Ovation flag should more be flown at half staff for than for Glen.

I was fortunate enough to meet him twice in life in both youth and adulthood.. and even more fortunate that those meetings were both one-on-one. I wrote at length about it in my own life journal sometime in the 90s, though too long-winded to post here. If anyone would care to read it, please feel free to PM me and I'll gladly share it along. I imagine that I would still most likely be playing Ovations if weren't for Campbell, but, maybe not, and even if so it surely would not be the same.

I wish the Campbell family, his contemporaries, fans, and all of us here on the OFC the most heartfelt of condolences for this loss.

Glen will be missed, but his music lives on forever...
The very first song I learned as a kid on guitar was "Gentle on my Mind", and still play it to this day.

His last tour didn't come to Boise, but we happened to be visiting in Phoenix when he played there and got tickets. He was pretty far along then and repeated himself quite a bit, but once he got going, the music just all came back. "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" in Phoenix was really special.
When they did the documentary, Kim came out to Boise for a screening. I was out of town and missed her. She's a special lady.

Glen will be greatly missed. I just wish he'd have had another good year or so without the oppressive illness.

He'll be missed. I bought my first Ovation because of him and Jim Croce. Sure glad I had the opportunity to meet him backstage when he came to Denver. I had him sign an 1866 and when he took it in his hands, he said, "hey, this is one of Charlie's Ovations. These are great guitars."
