Put a lot of performers on the charts. Heck of an entertainer in his own right.

Slowly the true CW pioneers are leaving us. These guys came from nothing, clawing their way to the top with determination and talent. This doesn't happen anymore. And good luck finding a station that plays real CW music. To quote Tom Petty...today's country music is "like bad rock with a fiddle"

I did several album projects with Mel. He was a humble, generous and funny man.

Keep in mind, Ernest Tubb was a heretic for bringing drums to the Opry stage. Merle, Roy and Miller were too slick and west coast for country fans. Kristofferson, Newbury and Nelson were too literary. Kenny Rogers, Denver and Mandrell were too "Pop". Generations have different definitions of "Country". I'm about to leave Nashville... for the last time... because it's not my town anymore. But I recognize, the definition is generational and I wish the young folks the best in shaping it to their own taste. And the grace to accept the inevitable changes that will follow.
RIP MMMelvin.
