Hello All,
I am new here and to the world of guitar playing. I am a beginner and purchased a 1768 Elite as my first guitar so forgive me if I ask seemingly dumb questions.
I really liked the tone of this guitar over the ones I was thinking about getting from makers like Fender, Taylor, Martin in my price range. I am totally happy with my purchase asI feel I received a lot of guitar for the money. I had a friend in high school that played an Ovation and I really liked the way he played and that stuck with me over the years and that's why I even looked at Ovation guitars.
But why the stigma with owning an Ovation versus other brands like Fender and Martin? People don't seem to say nice things in some of the websites I've seen.

Congratulations!

Why the stigma?
Most people who talk bad about Ovations have never played one.
Or, they played a beat-up old Celebrity or Applause with high action.
Because they played a second-hand beater, all Ovations must suck.

Many dislike Ovations because the body is not made of wood.
But then they will sing praises about their cousin's Rainsong.

Also, back in the good-old-daze you could buy a USA-made Ovation for $300-$600...
So, snobs assume that Ovations were inexpensive, they must be cheap crap.
Cuz you KNOW that you cannot buy a nice guitar for less than $10,000.

There are people who have tried Ovation and just don't like them.
But the most vocal critics have never played an Ovation and the are just repeating crap that they heard.
Don't worry about it, and ignore the critics.

I have played Ovations on the street for years, and many people come-up to me and tell me stories about the Ovation that they owned way-back-when and what a great guitar it was.

But anything made by Fender really is Crap.
