Greetings. Old guy here... deciding I really ought to learn a bit more about a Legend LX 12-string I found used back in 2009. Looks like boatloads of info here!

The grey background label inside mine – with the illustration of the New Hartford facility -- says Model No. 6756LX, Legend LX, and Made in New Hartford CT USA. The inside of the bowl is stamped “Bowl Made By Ovation USA” in the area in between the label and the trussrod adjuster. The inside of the bowl is also stamped “04” near where the neck attaches to the bowl.

The top/soundboard color is something like Black Cherry Burst (or maybe just Cherry).

I assume the bowl is mid-depth.

The pre-amp is labeled Op-Pro Series.

The tuners are “gold” with an image of a roundback guitar on each.

I’ve read that the serial number should perhaps be engraved or printed on the headstock or maybe printed on a paper label inside the bowl. I can find neither. I've seen on-line pics of a 2005 model with serial number on the back of the headstock, but nothing like that appears on mine.

I think I remember seeing, at one point quite some time ago, some historical info on the Ovation Guitars website, or maybe the 6756LX was still catalogued at the time. Seems I remember the only colors mentioned there were black and maybe a light wood. Amber Burst was the color of the one I saw with serial number. I’ve not seen any mention anywhere of a 6756LX in this Black Cherry Burst/Cherry (maybe) color, although a copy of the 2007 catalog I found lists black, natural, Amber Burst... but shows a picture on the Legend/Elite page of probably a 6-string 1777LX in Red Tear Drop (RTD) and that could maybe be the color of mine, too.

Can anyone fill me in with any additional details? When built? (2004?) Top wood? Tuner manufacturer (if not Ovation)? Alternative locations for serial number? Et cetera?

Cheers, -D44

I don't know what happened to your serial number.
It should be on the back of the Headstock on an LX.
Or on a little rectangular sticker by the neck block inside of the bowl.
HERE is a link to a Color chart on Ovation Tribute.
Also you can search for info all over http://www.ovationtribute.com/index.php

I hope this helps a little.

Thanks. I already had the Service Parts Reference (for the whole modern line-up, near as I can tell... not just for the 6756LX)... and I'd been rummaging around on the tribute site, too, but didn't include in my first note all the color options I've thought this possibly is.

Could be BCB/Black Cherry Burst, CCB/Cherry Cherry Burst, RRB/Ruby Red Burst... since I think there's a bit of "burst" (darker around the edges)... or maybe TPB/Transparent Burgundy (if I'm imagining that edge thing). But I haven't been able to find any reference that the 6756LX was ever made in anything other than black, natural, or Amber Burst. If these were introduced in 2004 (?) maybe a 2004 or 2005 catalog would be useful, but I haven't found one of those anywhere...

And then there's that serial number thing. No sign of one ever having been stamped, engraved, or stenciled on the back of the headstock. The finish looks unmolested, not as if a number has been removed. No serial number sticker inside the bowl, although I could guess something like that could have been lost to humidity (or lack thereof) or some other cause. OTOH, the main label is still there, looks fine, no signs of falling off in this century...

Hmmm... don't find an "edit" button...

I mean to add that I see the Part Reference says the soundboard is bookset "A" grade Spruce, whereas the 2007 catalog says ""AA" grade solid (Sitka) Spruce.  My top looks to me to be probably two pieces...

They are all in two pieces, but those two bookmatched pieces are Solid Spruce.

And the [edit] button is in the top right-hand corner.
It goes away after 15 minutes or so.

Hmmm... still no edit button, immediately after posting my last. Quote/Reply/Alert in top right corner. Top/Bottom in lower right corner. Profile/PM in lower left corner. (Your post has Profile/PM/www in lower left corner.)

Hmmmm... "Attach a photo or file after posting" did nothing...

I may not be smart enough to figure this out...

Maybe Newbies don't get an [edit] button... Who knew?

You have been "upgraded" to an OFC Member.
You can post your question in the General Posting section where More People will be able to respond.
(only about 6 people can answer in the "Welcome Center")
Then maybe someone can give you the information that you desire.

You will also be able to upload photos into the "Albums" section (upper right-hand corner).
Then people can see what you are trying to explain.

Post Away.

Nice, thanks. I've started in the other section, and I can see the edit button there!
