Hello, all. I'm a middle-aged dad and not-very-advanced guitar player.

I ran across an Applause (Ovation's entry line some years back, as near as I can tell) AA12 in a pawn shop. It's a 1/2 size acoustic. I thought it might be good for my 7.5 year old because of the smallish size and thinner body. Volume and tone are both pretty good, especially for a small guitar.

However, I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this guitar, and, more specifically, what strings do you find work well with it. I know this all subjective. The Ernie Ball Earthwood 80/20 extra lights I put on it aren't turning me on, though. With standard tuning, the G string sounds rather dull, and the whole tone is just not that great to my ears. I went with extra light in view of 7 year old fingers.

Any suggestions to offer?

Try Silk-and-Steel Strings. (Martin M130 or M1400)
Or Silk-and-Phosphor. (Martin FX130)

They will be very gentle on young fingers, but still sound good.
