Very cool video and venture! Used to live in Austin when Stevie Ray was gettin' larger than life and when Eric Johnson was just getting started! Awesome music town. Good luck to the "6 String Ranchers"!
Hope I'm not outta line with this comment; but having had a bit of audio engineering experience, and having partaken of Darkbar's "acoustisong" lessons...if the man is coming out of a session sounding like "crap" you've gotta wonder what the audio engineers were takin'...just sayin'... |

Location: Flahdaw | Ok, I admit I may have been drinking when I made that last post. Nevertheless, I have spent upwards of $1000 at 2 different recording studios trying to record 2 original songs, and have nothing to show for it. I suppose if I kept at it and a "producer" really worked with me personally, I may be able to get something I would consider satisfactory out of the process. But it would be expensive and take a lot of time.
I guess what I'm saying is, if you've never tried it, the recording studio is a challenging and, often, difficult place. Keep your ego in check, and be prepared to spend more than you think. And in the end, you're probably not going to get a recording that sounds like something you might hear on the radio. In MY case, my voice is "okay" and my playing is "okay", so my results are gonna be "okay". Why I expected more, who knows? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I can relate, Darkbar. You sound better than okay to me. I just don't really like to listen to recordings of my own voice. Not that I don't like to hear myself talk. Some would say I like it too much. First, I get frustrated with all my mistakes and I couldn't imagine the number of retakes it would require for me to get through one song. My voice sounds different in a recording. I'm sure it's what other people really hear when I'm talking or singing because I sound just like my brothers sound to me. Maybe our kids would appreciate it, though, if they had something to listen to when I'm gone. Maybe not. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | When I moved to Austin everyone I ran into had a studio. And while they were good players it was all from pretty good to pretty average. But there is a secret.
It's not how good the guy in front of the mic is, it's how good the guy behind the board is. And how creatively it can be all put together. That's what 6SR can do for you. |

Location: When?? | Microphones are honest, but the guy behind the board can at least bend the truth. I jumped behind the board with my first egg carton basement studio and 7" reels when I was 13, and it stayed at that crafty analog level for decades; but when Bill Gates moved in with his stuff around the mid 90's the guy behind the board started turning into a flat out liar. Today he's a psychopath. Or maybe it's magic. Either/and/or, I'll take it. |
