Hi Folks. I just joined the Ovation FanClub after lurking (is that term still used?) for many years now. I have been wanting an Al De Meola Signature model for several years now. My preference has been an a model 1769 ADII for no other reason than it is newer and (from what I seemed to have read online) has newer and better electronics. Within the last several days I ordered what I thought was a ADII from Guitar Center paying $1833.00 including tax and shipping. It turns out it is the older 1769 model from 1998. Its in pretty good shape except the action is a bit high. Specifications are .094". I estimate mine to be slightly more than .125" or three credit cards.

So my questions are:

Is there any redeeming qualities of the 1769 vs. the 1769 ADII that would make this guitar worth keeping?

Is the price to much for a 1769? They seem to sell for less than the ADII's.

Is the string height a deal breaker?

This has become exhausting and I appreciate your help.

Cheers. -mike
