Hello, Friend and HELP!!

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement Silver Foil Label that is missing from my 1114-4 Folklore?

When I got this beauty it was without it. I hate to see the old girl go around naked all the time.

Any ideas would help. I've tried to get pictures from the internet but the best picture is not in proper perspective.

Thanks,

Larry

Hi Larry,

Getting the artwork isn't the problem. The problem is printing the foil label so it looks like foil.

I would volunteer to print the label for you but my ALPS printer is on its last legs so I'm no longer printing for others.

To get you started, I can supply you with print-ready artwork. I've used this for a few guitars, both with gold foil and silver foil. Click on the link below to download the Photoshop file.

Print-Ready 1114-4 Silver Foil Label

Sample artwork (not print-ready):

Here's what the silver foil looks like in my 1111.

Well, I'm not as up-to-date as I thought I was. I don't have Photoshop so I can't open the file!

You're welcome.

This artwork was designed to work with the ALPS printer.

There are two layers: Artwork and background.

I printed the background layer using metallic ink (gold or silver), then printed the artwork (gold or silver) over the background.

I was able to open the file in IrfanView- a good free program for Windows.

I wonder if it's difficult to get it to print the right size.

It should already be the right size. (4-1/2" x 2-1/2")

Just in case it helps anyone, I tried printing from IrfanView to my Brother laser printer. Using IrfanView's "original size from image DPI" printing option, I got a nice looking printout that is 4-1/2" x 2-1/4" .

Dan, what kind of stock did you use when printing with the ALPS?

I started with PuffinPaper waterproof paper. Once printed, I would carefully cut out the label, then spray the back with 3M 377 spray glue.

Now I use Aiva Vinyl Sticker Matt-White paper. It's like the PuffinPaper waterproof paper, but with pressure-sensitive layer on the back. Once printed, you cut out the label, peel off the backing and lay it down. Even though these are made for inkjet printers, they work well in the ALPS printers.

But, rereading Dan's post and some Irfanview info, it seems that it is showing only one layer or combining them. Looks like GIMP might do the layering if you need free software.

Yeah. Two layers.

Background layer is just a grey oval in the CMYK color ALPS expects to see when printing metallic silver.

Artwork layer is what you're seeing in the sample above. That is printed using normal ink, which is slightly translucent.

When the artwork is printed over the metallic silver, the label looks like it's embossed foil label.

Here's examples of the gold 'foil' label. The grainy quality to the print is an artifact of the camera. It's not present when looking at the label with the naked eye.

While on the topic, I'm hoping since it's a much newer label, is there anywhere to find the burgundy/gold label featured on the 2017 1627 Reissues?

Brad, I don't know where to get a label but they sure are handsome. There is a 2017 1627 reissue for sale on Reverb and it's gorgeous!!!

Is this the label you're describing?

It's pretty much the same design as the 2006 K1111 Re-issue except the model number has changed.

An ALPS printer could easily duplicate this label by printing the gold metallic background, then overlay the artwork layer like what I've done with the old labels.

Amazing! Yep, that's the label. Can I purchase one from you? What would be the best method for it to stick?

The only 1627s I see on Reverb are the Korean made Reissues.

Larry, How important to you is it for the label to be full size?

Dan's .psd file loaded for me to be 4.5" wide at 524 dpi(2358 pixels).
(I do not know if that matches the original label size or not)

How important to you is it that the label says 1114-4?

Why do I ask?
Well, I have an NOS silver foil label with embossed characters and shapes.
It measures 3.5" x 1.75" with a self-adhesive backing.

I'm not sure what it was from or intended to be used for as it ...

- doesn't list a model number (No MODEL NO. text or rectangle)
- reads "A KAMAN MUSIC PRODUCT" inside the upper portion of the oval background
- reads "MANUFACTURED IN USA" at the bottom portion of the oval background
- reads "New Hartford, CONN." below the "TION" of the OVATION text
- doesn't have an embossed perimeter

TJR,
Thanks for your response. I'd love to have something original. I've printed out the image Dan posted and I printed it on photo paper just to have something showing inside. I just can't stand a naked inside! LOL Let me know what you'd want for it. We'll work something out. THANK YOU!!
