I managed to win a charity auction for a good looking blue Squire Affinity Strat with a bunch of autographs on it. One autograph looks to be some kind of gloppy paint, the others are Sharpie. They are on the paint as well as on the pickguard.

None of this is of any monetary value really as the guitar new would cost $259, but I hope to give the guitar to a grandchild to learn on. Preserving the autographs would be for the kid's fun and, maybe, motivation.

I don't really know anything about paint types or compatibility. I see StewMac sells a nitrocellulose lacquer. Would this likely be compatible with the blue paint and pickguard? Any other suggestions?

I can never get photos to post.

Fwiw, the autographs are Anaïs Mitchell, David Ramirez, Eric D. Johnson, Joe Pug, John Craigie, Josh Kaufman, Langhorne Slim, Travis Howard, and Waylon Payne

A couple coats of carnauba wax.. or any similar non-petrol-base paste wax.. would likely add a sufficient layer to protect the autographs and you wouldn't have to spray anything or otherwise deal with a liquid. I use it on guitar finish and it always buffs out to a very nice surface that allows easy fingerprint and sweat removal with no apparent intrusion on the surface coverage. Just let it (carnauba) cure and dry for at least an hour before buffing.. and maybe wipe/buff any residual again the next day. At least that's my $.02.
