After I spent time in the Archives Forum It really made we wonder who has passed from the from the OFC.
Not trying to sound grim but I always like to look back and think about members we knew from this website who aren't with us ( in body ) but still a fresh memory of them. |

Location: New Britain, Ct | I check in now and then - I feel lucky that I live in CT. and was able to visit the Ovation factory in New Hartford when they were open , I have 3 made in CT, and my favorite is the model s771 balladeer special which is also the cheapest I own , I brought guitar to the factory to have the neck reset and they upgraded the bridge and pickup for free- the guitar is now the most amazing I have ever played. |

It wasn't so much an exodus, but not sure how to describe it. Between 2004 and 2015 Ovation was sold TWICE and the first sale to Fender Musical Instrument Corp resulted in them shutting down the factory. Also, Facebook came into its own and "forums" were beginning to wane. To this day, forums hold historical knowledge and that hasn't been able to be replicated with the exception of dedicated sites. But community-based knowledge forums took a huge hit. Essentially there are now community "sharing" which is social media, and community forums which are brand/topic based.
There are brand or topic based groups on facebook but they are generally a disaster with larger ones needing teams of moderators to not only help stay on track, but to thwart those who only want to derail or worse, just spam. I belong to a few, and it's fun to watch the trainwreck of 100's of people, every day, posting the equal of "what strings should I use." Not to mention another 100 posts that a team of moderators generally stay on top of, that are working to steal personal information, providing click-bait to steal information and identity theft or ransomware attacks, it's quite the jungle. |

| Thanks for the info. I agree with your assessment. With a few exceptions I've found FB brand based user groups to be pretty useless.

Probably the global event events that affected all this were https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dot-com_bubble and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007%E2%80%932008_financial_crisis.
One other guitar related forum which I attended completely changed from one day to the next. It was Everythingsg. When I found it it was a website about SG guitars - a true treasurepit with scans of old brochures and descriptions of model variants and historic listing of famous players. This site also had a members forum as one of its offerings. Suddenly all background/history knowledge related information was gone, the forum software was changed which lost much accumulated user supplied knowledge, leaving only the forum without the idea, providing only a service which may be better provided by other sites.
There are a still a few enthusiasm borne sites/forums left and I enjoy them as long as they are around. OFC is one of them. To me it is better with a relevant topic once a week than 10 irrelevant topics daily, but I suppose we all have different needs :-)

I first came to the OFC sometime around 2005 or so, under the screen name "Spruce Moose".. but very rarely used it, and it must have fallen off the member list due to attrition. So I came back in 2016 as LOF, and have participated pretty much daily since.
I don't use any of the other social media providers for Ovation topics as I early found them to be so diluted with irrelevant matter, one-liner nothings, and in-your-face content blither, so I cannot much say first hand what does and doesn't happen there these days.
Buried somewhere on the OFC site is a link to donate, but you have to dig to find it. I try to use it once per year for at least a token pitch-in, and/or otherwise when I buy a guitar or gear from a member that was posted for sale here. In fact, I think I'm gonna go dig it out right now.. and meantime maybe admin can find a place to post it in a more openly visible spot. I believe that the regulars here truly appreciate the service of a reliable style and method of communicating about our Ovation passion and ongoing friendships. It's where the serious grown-ups still come to mingle.
Bottom line for myself personally-- I love it here! So thank you, Miles, for taking such good care of us!

And, "in memorium". I don't find that particularly necessary, either. I have my selective memories, anyway.
True, the other sites have differing vibes & pace. There is some good info at Renovation. I'm a diehard BFLG'er, so anything about restoration and repair is interesting & valuable.

Lots of newbies who love the brand and old guys who are connecting with fellow fans for the first time.
Actually kind of amazing... to me at least. |

I wasn't around for a while due to a career change where I was out of an office environment (and road trips) and back into retail, working a sales floor. I thought I was keeping half an eye on everyone via Fbook where I'd see some of the old faces once in a while, which does leave one with the (false) sense of staying in touch. Now I'm retired and the world is just drifting away without me, and I'm good with that. Miss the old Gatherings... are they still happening anywhere?
