Brand new here. Picked up my first guitar 48 years ago. Not very proficient for that many years of playing. Thinking of starting back into a few lessons.

Have written about 20-30 songs, mostly ballads.

A number of years ago, I fulfilled a long time goal and bought a Legend 1717, serial #391069 in white. It was at the time, the nicest guitar I had ever played, sounded full, and was a joy to play. It has yellowed over the years.

Two questions:
1 - what year manufacture does my serial number equate to? 391069
2 - is there anything I can do to bring back the white finish from the yellow, or is the yellowing a prefered finish giving it character?

Thanks - Flash

The serial number dates it to 1989. 21 years old. Bet it sounds great!

The yellowing on your guitar (white) is probably the finish. What Ovation used until about 5 years ago would yellow over time and it had nothing to do with the wood. I wouldn't worry about it. It's just a sign of age, which on a guitar, is a good thing....

BTW - I play through an early '70-'71 Concord Sound City Amplifier.

Not everybody plays through a modern acoustic only amp. Chet Atkins played nylon string through a 1950 Standel amp which was the same one he played electric through. Whatever works....
