I registered here some months ago, as I buyed my first Ovation, a 2078TX made in Korea. As many others I purchased this guitar because I love Kaki King's Music and consider her one of the main inspirations for my own music, even if it's not easy to find this out of my songs. Well, the thing is that the more I play on my Ovation and listen to Kaki King and other artists, the more I want to get a better acoustic guitar, and my only option is to get a new Ovation, as I like the sound on Kaki King's recordings very much. could you give me some advise on this? I would even buy the 1581 KK one if needed, but it's not easy to buy a guitar over 3,000$ without testing it before, and as I live in Germany I have no chance to do that. That model is only to find in one online shop in the whole country now. Should I go for it or are there any other Ovation Guitars that could give me that sound for little less money? Thank you in advice and greetings from Germany.

If you're interested in getting an Adamas, I have no hesitation in recommending anything with a textured (non-shiny) top. The shiny tops are slightly thicker because of the varnish on top to give it a smooth top. I would also recommend getting one with either a deep bowl or a contour bowl (which is also deep). Talk to Al Pepiak, who is one of the mods on this board (alpep@aol.com). His website is lostartvintage.com. I've bought two guitars off him (and am buying a third). The first and third I'd never seen or heard and the second I'd played briefly at a gathering. I think you'll find that his deal will be better than what you can get in Germany. So there you go, my advice, for what it's worth: textured top + deep or contour bowl = happy guitarist. BTW, the KK model fits this bill, but there's other options there too.

It's playability is second-to-none. It booms! And it easily fits your budget. If for some reason you don't bond with it, I don't think it would take you long to sell it in Europe and get your money back. It's worth a thought anyway...

I don't think I need to jump from my 500$ 2078TX directly to a 1581-KK over 3,000$. I'll see which one is the best choice for me, I will contact Pepiak as soon as I've saved enough money to buy one and see if he's got something for me too. Patch, thank you too for the offer, but I'm kind of freak when I decide to buy a guitar. I need it to be as perfect for me as it can, and for me everything must fit. In this case I don't like brown guitars, I don't even like the typical design on the holes of Adamas guitars. I need the guitar to be as black as possible, that's why I purchased the 2078TX and why I'm looking for a better model in the 1581 Kaki King's style. Thank you anyway :)

That's not much more than 2,000 euros, and that Ovation costs 3,199 euros on the only shop I could find in Germany. I'm going to contact him, and wanted to thank you for the tip :)

Not only is it the best SOUNDing guitar I own, but essentially it's the guitar the Kaki King model is designed from. And I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the price. I think they were going for under $2k US
