Location: CA | Am fairly new to the forum here, but a longtime Ovation owner/player. I bought a 1111-4 non-electrified model brand new in 1971 and still have it lo these many miles and years later. It's been my fallback guitar through many others, both acoustic and electric (Gibson, Fender, Larrivee). The only thing I don't like about it is the thin width neck. Just too thin at the nut for my fingers. Stupid me, I thought all Ovations were like this so never considered another. . . until recently, when I friend got ahold of a Ultra Deluxe. Wow, that thing felt so nice — super shallow bowl and the neck was just perfect. Even sounded decent plugged in. I subsequently found this site and did some research. In last three months, I've bought and sold another Ultra Deluxe and a like-new Balladeer. Pooled the $$ and sprung for a 1778 Elite T, which I had read nothing but good things about. Well, I am here to add to those posts. Looks aside (I'm getting used to it, but still, a nonskid guitar?), this is the best sounding (plugged or unplugged), most comfortable, and best neck of any guitar I have ever owned. I finally have found the 'lady of my dreams'! |

I, too, have an 1111-4, same vintage. But for me, she will always be my A#1 "Ol' Lady." I have a CE868LX-4 that I play now, but the grande dame's sound is just so rich and deep. You'll meet lots of great people here, learn everything you'll ever need to know about O's, and find more potbelly guitars to drool over than you ever knew existed. (Wear a dribble bib, like the the rest of us do; you might get the impression that Hawaiian shirts are the official garb, but, trust me, it's really all about the dribble bibs.)

Location: CA | Mine is the Pewter color. As I said, not everyone's cup of tea looks-wise — it somehow seems like something that Terminators would play when machines take over the future. But everything else is so spot on and pleasing that I have a hard time NOT playing it as often as possible.
One other question: do I go for a MATCHING dribble bib, or one with a contrasting pattern, such as herringbone? |
