Hello all,

I recently about 3 weeks ago bought a whats believe 75 Preacher Deluxe in real good shape. I got a hell of a deal on it too! Its all black with gold hardware. Sweet playing guitar.

I had a couple of questions.

_Anyone have a solution for the heavy neck when playing with a strap? Currently i have a weight on the tail end of my strap to keep the guitar level.

_This guitar is realllllly hot. I run a Crate BV120h and a Peavey 5150 (distorted playing older punk rock sound), and this Preacher gives off tons of feedback. Using my noise supression pedal doesnt even help this baby unless i turn the volume on the guitar body down to 8. Any ideas?

_cases. does anyone know of any fairly common cases that will fit? I havent had a chance to bring it down to guitar center or some other evil corporate guitar center and try out some cases yet.

_Any issues i should take note on too?

Thanx in advance
Mike

Welcome Mike!

Take a look at the upper strap pin location and see if that will help. If it has the Brass & Plastic Bridge you might cross over to a metal one piece, available through Ovation/Hamer Customer Support or some of the members.

For feedback you may look under the pickguard and make sure the shielding is in place. Stewmac has some copper tape that works well and I just started using their Graphite Shielding Paint.

Preachers, Vipers, UK II's all use the same case and they show up on ebay often. You can buy a new style Viper case and add a towel or pad to catch the slop too.

Enjoy it and post some pictures!

Is it passive? Or is there a cover plate on the back hiding the pre-amp electronics. If it's active, there are potentiometers under the cover plate that let you adjust the output of each individual pickup, so you can balance them or have one hotter than the other for a gain boost when switching pickups. If so, you can just lower the gain a little.

A solution for heavy necks . . . use a vintage style leather guitar strap similar to those originally furnished with Fender guitars in the 50's. Once the shoulder pad is adjusted in the right position, fasten the pad to the strap with adhesive or any other manner you prefer. Newer straps may be stiff enough that they stay in place and don't need to be affixed to the strap. These straps have worked for me in this manner for 46 years.

Fly - Thanks, and yeah im talking the volume knob on the body. If i have it at about 8 im good with gain

MWWoody - Ill check the shielding out

Brainslag - Its active, and i didnt know that about the pot adjustments. Thanks a lot!

professor - I meant to mention the strap idea, and i actually just found a non leather padding that might work. ill give it a shot.

Ill post pics soon.

Also, what exactly do the switches do above the pickups?

These Freedom Case are a fairly good fit although they aren't very good quality.
